Angelina Jolie is hailed as the 'patron saint' of Cambodia as local women welcome news that she plans to move to the country where many believe the Maleficent star lived in a past life

Angelina Jolie can expect a heroine’s welcome when she moves her family to Cambodia.Women in the South-east Asian nation consider her their ‘patron saint’ – some even believing she was Cambodian in a previous life.‘She has some of our same beautiful physical features,’ farmer Phalla Ung told DailyMail.com.‘The delicate features, the eyes, the skin tone, the hair and especially her smile, they look so Cambodian.‘Many of us believe that in a past life Angelina was actually a Cambodian,’ added 62-year-old Ung, who still labors in the fields.Jolie, 48, spoke out this week in an interview with WSJ. – The Wall Street Journal’s magazine – about how she wants to get away from ‘unhealthy’ Los Angeles and live in her Asian home. But her plans have been stymied due to her long-running custody battle with ex-husband Brad Pitt. The pair started dating in 2005 and married in 2014, but split two years later, in 2016 – and since then, they have been embroiled in a lengthy, seven-year divorce proceeding over the custody of their six kids. But as that legal fight winds down her chance to move way from acting and live in the country she loves are becoming more real.‘We Cambodians will openly welcome her,’ said Phon Phalla, a 72-year-old fisherwoman from Kampong Phluk, a picturesque village in the west of the country where many houses are built on stilts due to the huge change in water levels between the wet and dry seasons.‘If she is willing to give up her life in Hollywood to find happiness here with us after traveling so many places, we would feel very honored.‘We would like nothing better than to put a smile on Angelina’s face – one we can make last forever.’ Many of the women of Cambodia are strong and they work as hard as the men, fishing and farming and with the added burden of caring for their children and their families.Angelina owns a traditional longhouse set on 150,000 acres of land in remote northwestern Cambodia which she used as backdrop for a 2019 advertising campaign for the fragrance Mon Guerlain. The idea of Angelina shedding her life of privilege in California and trading it in for a much simpler life in Cambodia, makes her a role model for the women of the country.‘She’s our saint,’ said Kol Thida, a farmer.‘I like Angelina 's personality so much because she chooses people over Hollywood.‘And the fact she has adopted children from all over the world, is proof how she clearly loves humanity and has a loving kindness regardless of her ethnicity. ‘We will welcome her to move to our country with open arms.’
Jolie has three adopted children, including her oldest Maddox, 22, who she took home from an orphanage in the country’s third-largest city, Battambang. She also adopted Pax, 20, from Vietnam and Zahara,18, from Ethiopia. She and Pitt had three children, Shiloh, 17, and 15-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. The children now have little or no contact with Pitt, 59.Just last month, DailyMail.com revealed that Pax had written an excoriating Father’s Day message to him calling him ‘a world class a**hole’ and saying: ‘You have made the lives of those closest to me a constant hell.’‘You time and time and again prove yourself to be a terrible and despicable person,’ Pax wrote.‘You have no consideration or empathy toward your 4 youngest children who tremble in fear when in your presence.‘You will never understand the damage you have done to my family because you are incapable of doing so,’ Pax added.Pax, who was 16 at the time ended the post with the words ‘So, Happy Father’s Day, you f***ing awful human being!!!’Their adopted daughter has even gone as far as to change her name from Zahara Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Jolie.Angelina filed for divorce from Pitt two days after a reported argument on a private plane when Maddox stepped in to protect his mother from an allegedly drunk Pitt.Maddox is now said to be completely estranged from Pitt.In her WSJ. Interview Angelina said: ‘I will move when I can.’She added: ‘I grew up in quite a shallow place. Of all the places in the world, Hollywood is not a healthy place. So you seek authenticity.'Angelina – whose parents, Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand, were both actors – added that because 'she grew up around' Hollywood, she was 'never very impressed' with it. 'I never bought into it as significant or important,' she told the publication. She admitted that if she were to start all over today, she likely wouldn't choose acting as her profession, because of the 'expectation' to share intimate details about her personal life that comes with fame. She added, 'When I was starting out, it wasn’t as much of an expectation to be as public, to share so much.'She also joked that she 'doesn't really have a social life' anymore and that all of her 'closest friends are refugees.'The movie star has worked with the the UN Refugee Agency for more than two decades, visiting camps in Cambodia, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, and Pakistan over the years.'There’s a reason people who have been through hardship are also much more honest and much more connected, and I am more relaxed with them,' she said.'Why do I like spending time with people who’ve survived and are refugees? They’ve confronted so much in life that it brings forward not just strength, but humanity.'In 2003, Angelina founded the non-profit Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation, a ‘conservation and community development program’ to protect endangered wildlife and forests in Cambodia. Its first task was to clear landmines left over from years of conflict in the 1970s and ‘80s. That action helped Angelina boost her popularity in a country where an estimated 5 million landmines lie undiscovered, killing or injuring more than 40 people every year.Last year Angelina took her daughter Shiloh to Cambodia to work with the foundation.‘A few days in Cambodia among the warm local people, and I feel my soul is recovering,’ she said at the time.‘This has always been a special country for me and our family.’

Angelina Jolie says it was an 'honor' to interview imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi: 'A brave Iranian prisoner of conscience'

Angelina Jolie highlighted her interview with Narges Mohammadi for Time by sharing a post on her Instagram account on Thursday. The 48-year-old actress shared a photo of the 51-year-old activist, and she also included a quote from the sit-down with the Nobel Peace Prize laureate. The performer, whose adopted son Pax is currently embroiled in a feud with his father Brad Pitt, also penned a short message to express her excitement about being able to spread awareness about the Iranian national's work. Jolie wrote: 'It was an honor to interview Narges Mohammadi, a brave Iranian prisoner of conscience. Please read her words to learn more of the courage and spirit of Iranian women and the moral power of peaceful resistance.' Mohammadi is currently imprisoned in Tehran's Evin Prison, where she has been incarcerated since 2021. The Nobel Peace Prize laureate has been arrested twice before on various charges related to her work as an activist. According to Time, the Iranian national has suffered from both mistreatment and beatings while in prison, and she recently embarked on a hunger strike. The media outlet also reported that she has been barred from communicating with her children. Jolie briefly touched on motherhood during her interview with Mohammadi, and stated that she would not be able to stand being unable to see her kids. 'I imagine myself in your situation—and hope that I would have half of your courage if I did—and cannot imagine how I would bear being separated from my children, and how much I would worry about them, probably more than I worried for myself,' she said. The activist then spoke about being arrested in front of her children and was remarkably open about the effects of being kept away from her family. 'I think my detentions in front of my children, enduring solitary confinement, not seeing their faces and not hearing their voices, was unbearable beyond any word, logic or belief,' she said. Jolie later brought up the topic of meeting women in refugee camps and spoke about their resilience in the face of adversity.'I am amazed usually by their fearlessness and the way they manage to even laugh, and express themselves, and to not get crushed by their experiences,' she said.  Mohammadi responded by giving the actress a glimpse into the life of women incarcerated in Evin Prison. 'We gather to celebrate the birthdays of our fellow inmates, even the birthdays of their children. The sound of our singing and joy reaches the male wards, and male wardens complain about what happens in the women's ward,' she stated. The Nobel Peace Prize laureate added: 'This is the sound of our vibrant life.'

'Angelina Jolie does not offer the Israeli people any ability to defend themselves': President Isaac Herzog hits back at the actress after she accused IDF of 'deliberately' killing children in Gaza airstrikes - as her father Jon Voight blasts her 'lies'

Israel's president has blasted Angelina Jolie for 'not offering the Israeli people any ability to defend themselves' after the actress strongly condemned the IDF's response to the Hamas terror attacks. Ms Jolie, formerly a special envoy of the UN High Commission for Refugees, accused Israel of 'deliberately bombing children, women, families, deprived of food, medicine and humanitarian aid' in violation of the international law. President Isaac Herzog, in an exclusive interview with Piers Morgan Uncensored today, said he 'totally rejects' Ms Jolie's criticisms of the offensive in Gaza, noting how she's never been to Palestine or Israel. His remarks comes as her father, actor Jon Voight, ripped anti-Israel posts by Ms Jolie branding them 'lies' and saying 'the Israeli army must protect thy soil.' Voight said he was 'disappointed' that his daughter does not understand that Hamas' objective 'is to annihilate the land of the Jews.' Mr Herzog, speaking to Piers Morgan, rejected Ms Jolie's claims, adding: 'I think she's never been in Gaza, she's never been here. She never went to visit and see the facts on the ground,' he said. 'With all the respect, people in Gaza know there is war, but there is no humanitarian crisis that does not enable them to survive. 'On the contrary, there is a safe zone which was agreed by the international community and Israel, in the south part of Gaza, in order to move the citizens to that zone, to take full care of them.' The president noted that there is a 'major dramatic increase in humanitarian aid to Gaza', which he claims has been 'supported dramatically' by Israel, the US, United Nations and others. 'The Gazan people can move there so we can uproot this terror regime. This is what we know. Angelina Jolie does not offer the Israeli people any ability to defend themselves by saying what she is saying,' he stated. Mr Herzog's full interview will air tonight on Piers Morgan Uncensored on TalkTV. His criticism come after the actress's own father tore into Ms Jolie over her remarks. In a video posted on Instagram, Voight, 84, did not hold back in his criticism of his daughter Jolie, saying: 'I am very disappointed that my daughter, like so many, has no understanding of God's honor, God's truths.' 'This is about destroying the history of God's land, the Holy Land, the land of the Jews, This is justice for God's children of the holy land,' Voight continued. 'The Israeli army must protect thy soil, thy people. This is war. It's not going to be what the left thinks, it can't be civil now. 'Israel was attacked by inhuman terror on innocent babies, mothers, fathers, grandparents,' Voight noted. 'You fools call Israel the problem, you should look at yourself and ask who am I? What am I? And ask God if am I learning the truth, or am I being lied to and following everyone else? The ones who understand truth see the lie.' 'These animals want to wipe out Jews, Christians,' he went on. 'They see that the Palestinians have not been neglected of finance. They have been given huge infusions of money, that they didn't share with the people. They made weapons instead, for their rage. 'The people of Israel care for people. They love and cherish. Something these animals don't understand. Justice will prevail.'
Voight called for Jolie to reassess her opinion on Israel's role in the war: 'Hamas and this deceit of their ruling is destroying their own people,' he added. He also hailed the 'great heroism' of Jewish people in the face of a series of tragedies throughout history, from the Holocaust to the recent 'Hamas Holocaust.' Voight married Jolie's mother, the actress Marcheline Bertrand, in 1971. The pair had two children, James in 1973 and Angelina 1975, but they divorced the following year because of Voight's cheating. Following Bertrand's death to ovarian cancer in 2007, Jolie wrote: 'When my father had an affair, it changed her life. It set her dream of family life ablaze. But she still loved being a mother.' Jolie and Voight were estranged throughout the early 2000s. She even legally changed her name following public comments he made about her mental health and the breakdown of her marriage to Billy Bob Thornton. The pair finally reconciled in 2010 and Voight was able to meet her six children after Brad Pitt helped broker a truce. Voight would tell the Daily Mail: 'That one moment changed my whole life. It gave me back my daughter and my family. Being reunited with my Angie is very precious to me.' But Jolie reportedly severed contact with her father following her divorce from Pitt. A source told Radar Online in May: 'They've lost contact again.' Voight's comments slamming his daughter have so far received more than 80,000 likes and come after Jolie made a series of posts on Instagram in which she condemned Israel for bombing Gaza.Voight is one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation, and he won the Academy Award in 1978 for his Jane Fonda collaboration Coming Home, while he was also nominated three other times. His role in Midnight Cowboy and Deliverance catapulted him to Hollywood fame, is perhaps better known for his connection to right-wing politics in recent years. After renouncing his liberal views of the 1960s and 1970s, he has since become a vocal supporter of the Republican Party. Voight went on to cast doubt on President Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 election, and had been a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump. In Jolie's own set of postings she has claimed Israel's actions were 'causing desperate new humanitarian needs daily. While addressing the war between Israel and Hamas, the Academy Award winner, 48, revealed 'like millions around the world' over the past few weeks, she has felt 'sick and angry at the terrorist attack in Israel' that caused 'the death of so many innocent civilians.'
In her latest post, shared with her more than 14.6 Instagram followers, the mother-of-six reveals she has been spending her time 'wondering how best to help.' 'I too am praying for the immediate, safe return of every hostage, and for the families who carry the unimaginable pain of a murder of a loved one. Above all, the children murdered, and the many children now orphaned,' the star wrote. She continued: 'What happened in Israel is an act of terror. But that cannot justify the innocent lives lost in bombing a civilian population in Gaza that has nowhere to go, no access to food or water, no possibility of evacuation, and not even the basic human right to cross a border or seek refuge,' Jolie added. 'Because of my work with refugees for 20 years, my focus is on the people displaced by violence in any context.' In a follow-up posting depicting pictures of demolished buildings, Jolie compared Gaza to an 'open-air prison.' 'This is the deliberate bombing of a trapped population who have nowhere to flee,' she said. 'Whole families are being murdered. While the world watches and with the active support of many governments, millions of Palestinian civilians - children, women, and families - are being collectively punished and dehumanized, all while being deprived of food, medicine, and humanitarian aid against international law.' Jolie said. 'By refusing to demand a humanitarian ceasefire and blocking the UN Security Council from imposing one on both parties. 'World leaders are complicit in these crimes,' she suggested. According to UNHCR's website, she 'carried out more than 60 field missions bearing witness to suffering and resilience and calling for urgent solutions to protect the rights and safety of displaced people.' In December 2022, she 'stepped down from her role as Special Envoy to engage on a broader set of humanitarian and human rights issues.' 'Gaza has a population of over 2 million people (half of them children), who have lived under a severe blockade for nearly two decades, on top of decades of displacement and statelessness,' Jolie pointed out in her posting. 'The few aid trucks that are entering are a fraction of what is needed (and was delivered daily before the present conflict), and the bombings are causing desperate new humanitarian needs daily.'
Jolie went on to condemn 'the denial of aid, fuel and water' as it 'collectively' punishes all people, including innocent civilians and kids. 'Humanity demands an immediate ceasefire. Palestinian and Israeli lives – and the lives of all people globally – matter equally,' she concluded. 'Anything that can prevent civilian casualties and save lives must be done. Like many others I have donated to medical relief efforts. I have chosen to support the work of Doctors Without Borders and have been closing following their reporting.' Targeting his daughter is not the first time Voight has blasted Hollywood celebrities for their attacks on Israel. In 2014, Voight branded Spanish film stars Penélope Cruz, and Javier Bardem 'ignorant' after they condemned Israel for its military action in the Gaza Strip. He claimed the pair are helping to fan 'the fire of anti-Semitism that is raging all over the world now' after they called for Europe to condemn Israel's then-bombing of the Palestinian territory. The Spanish celebrities speaking out against Israel's actions in Gaza called on the EU to 'condemn the bombing by land, sea and air against the Palestinian civilian population.' 'Palestinians' homes are being destroyed, they are being denied water, electricity, free movement to their hospitals, schools and fields while the international community does nothing,' they said at the time. Over the weekend, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu defied calls for a ceasefire in Gaza by Pope Francis and Middle East leaders, as the IDF rained hell down upon the Gaza Strip as part of its ongoing 'circling' campaign against the enclave. Fires engulfed whole buildings in the Gaza Strip as the IDF carried on its bombardment campaign, as the Israeli PM told IDF troops at the Ramon air force base in southern Israel that war would only stop when Hamas was completely destroyed. 'Our enemies misjudged us. There will be no ceasefire without the return of the hostages,' Netanyahu said. 'This should be completely removed from the lexicon. We say this to our friends and to our enemies. We will simply continue until we defeat them. We have no alternative.' The hardline rhetoric comes as world leaders, including direct neighbors, pleaded with the 74-year-old leader to stop the incessant bombing of the enclave. Pope Francis called for humanitarian aid and help for injured Gazans in order to ease the 'very grave' situation. 'I keep thinking about the grave situation in Palestine and Israel where many people have lost their life. I pray you to stop in the name of god, cease the fire,' the Pope said, speaking to crowds in St Peter's Square after his weekly Angelus prayer on Sunday. 'I hope that all will be done to avoid the conflict from widening, that the injured will be rescued and aid will arrive to the population of Gaza, where the humanitarian situation is very grave,' he added.

Angelina Jolie calls for a ceasefire in Israel-Palestine conflict as she reflects on feeling 'sick and angry' over the terrorist attack in Israel: 'Anything that can save lives must be done'

Angelina Jolie is calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and Israel on Saturday. While addressing the war between Israel and Hamas, the Academy Award winner,  48, revealed 'like millions around the world' over the past few weeks, she has felt 'sick and angry at the terrorist attack in Israel' that caused 'the death of so many innocent civilians.' In her latest post, shared with her more than 14.6 Instagram followers, the mother-of-six reveals she has been spending her time 'wondering how best to help.' 'I too am praying for the immediate, safe return of every hostage, and for the families who carry the unimaginable pain of a murder of a loved one. Above all, the children murdered, and the many children now orphaned,' the Eternals stars wrote. She continued: 'What happened in Israel is an act of terror. But that cannot justify the innocent lives lost in bombing a civilian population in Gaza that has nowhere to go, no access to food or water, no possibility of evacuation, and not even the basic human right to cross a border or seek refuge.' 'What happened in Israel is an act of terror. But that cannot justify the innocent lives lost in bombing a civilian population in Gaza that has nowhere to go, no access to food or water, no possibility of evacuation, and not even the basic human right to cross a border or seek refuge,' Jolie added. 'Because of my work with refugees for 20 years, my focus is on the people displaced by violence in any context.' The performer referenced her work 'with refugees' for the past two decades and how she is currently focused on 'the people displaced by violence in any context.'  'Gaza has a population of over 2 million people (half of them children), who have lived under a severe blockade for nearly two decades, on top of decades of displacement and statelessness,' she pointed out. 'The few aid trucks that are entering are a fraction of what is needed (and was delivered daily before the present conflict), and the bombings are causing desperate new humanitarian needs daily.' Jolie went on to condemn 'the denial of aid, fuel and water' as it 'collectively' punishes all people, including innocent civilians and kids.'Humanity demands an immediate ceasefire. Palestinian and Israeli lives – and the lives of all people globally – matter equally,' she concluded. 'Anything that can prevent civilian casualties and save lives must be done. Like many others I have donated to medical relief efforts. I have chosen to support the work of Doctors Without Borders and have been closing following their reporting.' Jolie has worked with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for more than 20 years and has served as a goodwill ambassador. According to UNHCR's website, she 'carried out more than 60 field missions bearing witness to suffering and resilience and calling for urgent solutions to protect the rights and safety of displaced people.'In December 2022, she 'stepped down from her role as Special Envoy to engage on a broader set of humanitarian and human rights issues.' At the time, she said in a press release, obtained by People, that she would 'continue to do everything in my power' to 'support refugees and other displaced people.' Her post comes just days after dozens of celebrities, including A-listers like America Ferrera, Channing Tatum and Dua Lipa, came together to urge President Joe Biden to help de-escalate the crisis in Gaza and Israel. The public figures, who created a group called Artists4Ceasefire, wrote an open letter to the president, which explains they have 'come together as artists and advocates, but most importantly as human beings witnessing the devastating loss of lives and unfolding horrors in Israel and Palestine.' 'We ask that, as President of the United States, you call for an immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Gaza and Israel before another life is lost,' the group stated. 'More than 5,000 people have been killed in the last week and a half – a number any person of conscience knows is catastrophic. We believe all life is sacred, no matter faith or ethnicity and we condemn the killing of Palestinian and Israeli civilians.' They continued: 'We urge your administration, and all world leaders, to honor all of the lives in the Holy Land and call for and facilitate a ceasefire without delay – an end to the bombing of Gaza, and the safe release of hostages.' The members of Artists4Ceasefire also pointed out that 'half of Gaza's two million residents are children, and more than two thirds are refugees and their descendants being forced to flee their homes.'The signees are also asking Biden to help residents of Gaza access humanitarian aid and expressed their belief that 'the United States can play a vital diplomatic role in ending the suffering.'
