Angelina Jolie has revealed that she used to enjoy killing Lara Croft when playing the Tomb Raider video game. The actress, who played the iconic character in 2001's Tomb Raider movie and its sequel Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, said she liked the way Croft sounded when she died in the game.Jolie told Total Film that she initially disliked the virtual character, but changed her mind when she realised Lara Croft could be a good role model."I only eventually [played the role] because it's about a very strong woman," she said. "It was exposing, but in a way where I thought, 'I really like what she represents as a woman', and so if I'm exposed in that way it's okay." She added: "When I agreed to play her, I didn't realise how much of an icon she was. There are magazines on where she went to school, and the music she liked... it's very bizarre!" The latest Tomb Raider movie to be made is from Bollywood. Jolie's directional debut In the Land of Blood and Honey will be released later in the year.

"You can read the full discussion in the brand new issue of Total Film (available for just £1.99 on your iPad), but here’s a sneaky snippet of what Jolie had to say about her directorial debut In The Land Of Blood And Honey, a brutal love story set during the Bosnian war. When we asked what drew the Oscar-winning actress to directing the film, she told us:“I didn’t set out to ever become a director or write a script. I was never intending to make a film. I often give myself homework on different things; it’s good exercise to get your mind working. So I was very frustrated by the lack of intervention.“I’ve been travelling for over 10 years to these conflict and post-conflict zones, and thinking about what happens to people when they live inside these situations, and how their humanity is just stripped apart.“I spent so much of the time bringing people back - like they’re in the refugee camp and returning them to the place where they faced war.“So I wanted to have a meditation on what this is and how people who are neighbours can turn against each other.” In The Land Of Blood And Honey will open in the UK in 2013.For much more from Angelina Jolie, pick up Total Film magazine issue 203 - which is out now!

Ang Lee is very likely to get his third Best Director Oscar nomination tomorrow, and Life of Pi will probably scoop up a Best Picture nomination as well-- a nice comeback for the director who last made the little-seen comedy Taking Woodstock. And now that Lee is mulling his next project, he seems to be leaning toward making another project that's huge and high-profile, and that has lost several even huger directors along the way.Producer Scott Rudin has been shepherding a Cleopatra since 2006, and the likes of David Fincher, James Cameron and Paul Greengrass have all considered it before departing. Now Lee tells The Hollywood Reporter that "I'm about to read the script," and that after all the other films he's done, "It just feels right." Lee continues, "What does it have in common with any of them? They’re all totally different! That’s what makes this perfect.”Lee's right that his filmography is hugely varied, and he's probably feeling pretty good after the giant creative risk of LIfe of Pi paid off so well. With Jolie still attached to Cleopatra it should have no problem getting made as soon as a director commits, and Lee's recent buzz could probably make him just the director to do it. Can he finally help Cleopatra get off the ground and put Jolie in the role she was born for?.

The film tells the story of Olympian and war veteran Louis Zamperini, who survived on a raft for weeks after a plane crash and was later captured by the Japanese. The film is an adaptation of the 2010 book by Laura Hillenbrand (Seabiscuit: An American Legend) and tells the story of Olympic athlete and war veteran Louis Zamperini who survived a plane crash during the war and clung to life on a raft for 47 days. He was captured by the Japanese and sentenced to time in a prisoner of war camp.Hillenbrand’s book spent 108 on the New York Times bestseller list, including 14 weeks at No. 1. “I read Laura Hillenbrand’s brilliant book, and I was so moved by Louie Zamperini’s heroic story, I immediately began to fight for the opportunity to make this film,” Jolie said in a statement. “Louie is a true hero and a man of immense humanity, faith and courage. I am deeply honored to have the chance to tell his inspiring story.” The news was announced by Universal Pictures chairman Adam Fogelson and co-chairman Donna Langley, and Walden Media CEO Michael Bostick. “In her life and in her work, Angelina has embraced stories and causes involving great struggle and triumph over tremendous odds and the basic human condition,” said Fogelson and Langley in a joint statement. “She has a real ability to illustrate the strength in human spirit which will be essential in telling Lou’s story of survival and great heroism.”The latest draft of the script was written by William Nicholson (Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Gladiator, Les Misérables), with an earlier draft having been written by Richard LaGravenese. Matthew Baer and Erwin Stoff are producing with Mick Garris serving as executive producer. Jolie made her directorial debut with 2011’s In the Land of Blood and Honey.
