Angelina Jolie's 'Unbroken' to Hit Theaters in December 2014

           The release date puts the film adaptation of Laura Hillenbrand's acclaimed 2010 book in the heart of awards season.Universal has set a Christmas Day 2014 release for World War II drama Unbroken, which marks Angelina Jolie's second directorial effort.Coen Brothers to Rewrite Angelina Jolie's 'Unbroken'.The coveted release positions the film -- an adaptation of Laura Hillenbrand’s acclaimed 2010 book about World War II hero Lou Zamperini -- for an awards run. Ethan and Joel Coen are writing the script from previous drafts by William Nicholson and Richard LaGravenese.Universal picked up the rights to the book in January 2011, initially for Francis Lawrence to direct. Jolie boarded the project in December.Zamperini was a Los Angeles high school track star who raced in the 1936 Berlin Olympics on the U.S. team that included Jesse Owens. In 1943, his Air Force plane crashed in the Pacific. He survived without food and water for 47 days, enduring shark attacks, aerial attacks and hunger before washing ashore on a Japanese island behind enemy lines, where he was held as a prisoner of war for two years and tortured by his captors.“I’ve had the privilege of spending a great deal of time with Louie Zamperini, who is a hero of mine, and now -- I am proud to say -- a dear friend,” said Jolie “I am deeply honored to be telling his extraordinary story, and I will do my absolute best to give him the film he deserves. I am grateful to Universal for making this film a priority.Jolie, who previously directed In the Land of Blood and Honey, is producing with Matthew Baer and Erwin Stoff. Walden Media will co-finance the film, which is set to start production in September. Ten-time Oscar nominee Roger Deakins has boarded the project as cinematographer.

Angelina Jolie Casts Jack O'Connell as Louis Zamperini in 'Unbroken'

            The Coen brothers recently rewrote the script for the Universal movie.Angelina Jolie has cast "300: Rise of an Empire" star Jack O'Connell as Louis Zamperini in Universal's "Unbroken," an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap."Unbroken" is based on the bestselling book by "Seabiscuit" author Laura Hillenbrand.O'Connell was one of three actors testing to play American track star Zamperini, who lived an incredible life that included surviving a plane crash only to become a POW in a Japanese prison camp during WWII.O'Connell's competition for the coveted role included Dane DeHaan and Alexander Dreymon.The Coen brothers recently rewrote "Unbroken," which Universal will release on Christmas Day next year against Disney's "Into the Woods" and Sony's "Annie."

Angelina Jolie Scouts 'Unbroken' Filming Locations in Hawaii!

          Angelina Jolie rocks a slightly sheer tank as she scouts a forest-y area of Oahu, Hawaii on Monday (July 8).The 38-year-old actress is on the island checking out potential filming locations for her next directorial venture, Unbroken.This is Angelina‘s second work she will direct – the first was last year’s In the Land of Blood and Honey.The day before, Angelina and her two sons Maddox and Pax arrived on the island to prep for filming.

Dane DeHaan in the running for Angelina Jolie-directed 'Unbroken'

             Deadline reports that DeHaan is among the frontrunners for the role of Zamperini, along with Jack O'Connell (300: Rise of an Empire) and Alexander Dreymon (best known from BBC film Christopher and His Kind).The Coen brothers rewrote the script for Unbroken earlier this year, which is based on the novel Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand (Seabiscuit).DeHaan will next be seen alongside Daniel Radcliffe in Beat poet drama Kill Your Darlings, and also plays Harry Osborn in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 2.

         She also launched the Give Love Give Life organisation to help fight gynaecological cancers.Angelina Jolie, who recently got a double mastectomy and wants to get her ovaries removed next, is all set to portray the role of her own mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who died of ovarian cancer in 2007, in a new biopic.The biopic celebrating Bertrand’s life will go into production in 2014 under Brad Pitt’s company `Plan B`, the Daily Express reported.The ‘Salt’ star’s mother was involved in humanitarian work herself and helped women Afghan refugees.She also launched the Give Love Give Life organisation to help fight gynaecological cancers.The 37-year-old actress is still haunted by her mum’s suffering and untimely death at just 56.The Oscar-winning mother-of-six described Bertrand as “grace incarnate”.Jolie recently said that she feels blessed that her mum was around to see both her brother and her in a nice place.She added that the late actress waited till everyone was OK and then she closed her eyes.
