Angelina Jolie relished getting 'pretty beaten up' while making Those Who Wish Me Dead. The 45-year-old actress plays no-nonsense firefighter Hannah in the survival thriller and despite being best known for action movies, she enjoyed the fact her character was much grittier and more down-to-earth than the roles she has played in the past.'There's nothing about this character that trained in martial arts or did anything special. I get pretty beaten up through this,' the Oscar winner explained. In the film she has to wear a 70lb firefighter suit at times. And playing an expert smoke jumper - the name given to specially-trained firefighters who parachute into the blazing wilderness - gave the brunette beauty more respect for firefighters the longer filming went on.She told Entertainment Weekly magazine: 'The first day we were in the fire, [I noticed] the heat and how quickly the winds would change and how quickly the fire would suddenly take to a tree that you weren't expecting.'Our respect just grew day after day for these people on the front lines and how difficult this work is.'While Angelina has been acting since she was just seven years old, she believes her decision to turn to directing in recent years has improved her performance by giving her a new perspective. She explained: 'In very technical terms, I'm more aware of what the director needs, and what other challenges they're facing, and how many different pieces are moving.' And as a result, she had a lot more patience and appreciation for the difficult stunts and set pieces in the movie. She added: 'Maybe when you're younger and you're having a huge day where you have to be cold and wet and emotional and crying, you're thinking about those things.'Now you've directed and you're older, and you realize that while you are going to be freezing and crying, there's also pyrotechnics going on, or multiple other situations. It pulls you out of yourself.' In the same interview she insisted it was 'not possible' for her to direct after getting divorced.Th star - who has Maddox, 18, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 14, and 12-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne with former husband Brad Pitt - 'loves' working behind the camera but has found the shorter schedule of acting projects has been better for her family life since her marriage came to an end in 2016.She told Entertainment Weekly magazine: 'I love directing, but I had a change in my family situation that's not made it possible for me to direct for a few years.' 'I needed to just do shorter jobs and be home more, so I kind of went back to doing a few acting jobs. That's really the truth of it.'And Angelina couldn't suppress her maternal instinct on her latest job, playing no-nonsense firefighter Hannah in thriller 'Those Who Wish Me Dead' as director Taylor Sheridan had to call her out for being too nice on camera to Finn Little's character, Connor Casserly, who her alter ego was tasked with protecting.Angelina said: 'My character is not maternal by nature. Sometimes Taylor would correct me because my behaviour towards a child was different from [Hannah's] behaviour towards a child. It took me a little bit to treat [Little] badly, but I got there!'The By The Sea filmmaker previously admitted she thinks she's 'lacking' in the skills to be a traditional stay-at-home parent. She said in February: 'I was never very good at sitting still. I feel like I'm lacking in all the skills to be a traditional stay-at-home mom. Even though I wanted to have many children and be a mom, I always imagined it kind of like Jane Goodall, traveling in the middle of the jungle somewhere. I didn't imagine it in that true, traditional sense.' The film hits theaters and HBO on May 14.

Angelina Jolie finds herself in a race against time in a heart-pounding first official trailer for her upcoming film Those Who Wish Me Dead. The 45-year-old plays a survival expert in a forest who comes along a blood-spattered boy (Finn Little) whose father has just been murdered. She becomes the child's protector as his father's murderers attempt to hunt him down - eventually starting a raging wildfire to smoke him out.The murderers who are related to each other are played by Tolkien actor Nicholas Hoult and Aiden Gillen who played Littlefinger on Game Of Thrones. In a flashback the little boy - who is called Connor - is seen in a car with his father until they are gunned off the road causing a disastrous wreck. His father manages to get Connor out of the car in time but he himself is stuck there when the killers Patrick and Jack Blackwell arrive. While Connor is haunted by memories of his father's death Angelina's character Hannah cannot shake her guilt over her handling of a previous wildfire. As clips play of the catastrophic event her voice-over says softly: 'I read the wind wrong - I should have gone to them.'Hannah is assigned to a fire tower and looking out with her binoculars when she spots Connor wandering through the woods alone. She has to chase him down and tackle him in order to ascertain 'where the blood's coming from' only for him to reveal: 'It's not my blood.''Are you in trouble?' she asks him in a later scene and he shares: 'My dad said if anything happened I should find someone I can trust. Are you someone I can trust?' Meanwhile Jon Bernthal plays a sheriff whose boss - played by Tyler Perry - orders him: 'We promise absolutes. Act accordingly.'One night Hannah and Connor are hiding in the fire tower and the Blackwells show up outside guns blazing and ready to kill again.Hannah catches sight of them out the window with her binoculars and Connor identifies them as his father's murderers.Once they start shooting Connor and Hannah have to make a mad dash out of the fire tower and go on the run through the wilderness.Aidan's character Jack throws a stick of dynamite into the woods in order to 'give 'em something else to worry about' - a rapidly spreading and seemingly unstoppable fire. The flames are seen tearing through the woods at shocking speeds such that the people in their vicinity are scarcely able to outrun them.Hannah first catches sight of the inferno from afar and by that time it has already engulfed what appears to be multiple acres of woodland.'Listen, you're gonna run and you're gonna keep running,' Hannah tells Connor in a moment of desperation adding that the fire 'eats everything in its path.' To the percussive strains of the Johnny Cash song God's Gonna Cut You Down the duo are seen trying to escape the killers and the fire all at once.In one bloodcurdling moment Connor is seen in tears as one of the Blackwells draws a knife and asks Hannah: 'You really wanna die for this kid?' During another hair-raising sequence Patrick is seen advancing through a building with a gun as Connor tries to hide under a bed.Hannah and Connor are glimpsed running at breakneck speak downhill through the woods as the inferno follows just behind them.Eventually they wind up floating in a body of water but even that location is not protection enough for them.'Take a deep breath, hold it and lay back!' Hannah shouts before she and Connor submerge themselves completely - with her keeping a grip on his hand.Directed by Sicario writer Taylor Sheridan the movie is slated for release on theaters and for a month on HBO Max beginning May 14.In addition to writing such films as Hell Or High Water he has acted on Sons Of Anarchy and directed the acclaimed 2017 crime drama Wind River. The movie is adapted from a 2014 novel of the same name whose author Michael Koryta adapted the script with Taylor and Blood Diamond writer Charles Leavitt. In a recent People interview Angelina said Hannah 'carries a lot of guilt, and is quite broken. She's a smoke jumper, and a bit of an adrenaline junkie, but she's also somebody that has experienced tragedy, and she feels responsible for it.'Angelina, who has six children, said that 'I had so much fun with Finn' and added that 'He can become very emotional and weep about something, and he can also jump over a building and dodge bullets and love it.'Meanwhile Finn gushed: 'Angelina is great! She's fun on set and very easy to work with. She is nurturer on and off set. She's lovely. I was so lucky!'

Angelina Jolie has given a first glimpse of her role in upcoming thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead ahead of its release next month. The actress, who plays smoke jumper Hannah in the Taylor Sheridan-directed film, is seen wielding and axe as she stands surrounded by burning trees in the middle of a wildfire. In another photo the 45-year-old makes her way through the Montana wilderness with her young costar Finn Little.Hannah is a survival expert who, still reeling from failing to save three people from a fire, comes across a distressed 12-year-old (Little) who has witnessed a murder and is being hunted down by assassins. The movie is based on Michael Koryta's 2014 novel of the same name and sees Hannah trying to help the boy who has been 'caught up in something he should never have been a part of,' Little tells PEOPLE.'She carries a lot of guilt, and is quite broken,' Jolie said of her character.'She's a smoke jumper, and a bit of an adrenaline junkie, but she's also somebody that has experienced tragedy, and she feels responsible for it.' 'On its surface, the story feels like a thriller, with a lot of really interesting characters and a great adventure across unusual terrain, inside a great fire,' Jolie added.'But, underneath, it's an emotional film about people who are thrown together to survive.' Jolie says the role pushed her limits and she was happy to get 'dirty and sweaty' and 'just toughen up'.The mother-of-six sang her young co-star's praises. '[Finn] has a light, and a great energy. A new look at the MCU's latest superteam, the Eternals, has been revealed online thanks to a tie-in calendar for the upcoming film.A brand new look at Eternals has been teased via a new calendar. Eternals, based on the Marvel comic book series of the same name created by Jack Kirby, is one of the many installments in Marvel's Phase 4. The film will follow an immortal race of aliens created by the Celestials who have lived on Earth for over 7,000 years and unite to protect humanity in the present day.Originally scheduled for release in November of 2020, Eternals has been delayed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. First, it was moved to February 12, 2021, and then to November 5, 2021, which marks a whole year from its original release date. The film's delayed release has meant that merchandise and promotional tie-in products that would have been planned for its two previous release dates are bound to leak out, sometimes even revealing details of the plot. Now fans are getting a new look at the next team in the MCU.The Twitter account Cosmic_Marvel released a photo of a calendar that gives fans the best look at the Eternals characters yet, minus Angelina Jolie's Thena. The image showcases the various members of the Eternals family in their cosmic costume including Richard Madden as Ikaris, Gemma Chan as Sersi, Selma Hayek as Ajak, and Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo. Other characters include Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Lia McHugh as Sprite, and Barry Keoghan as Druig.Noteworthy is the absence of Angelina Jolie's Thena from the calendar, as Jolie was one of the first to sign on for Eternals and was originally believed to be the star of the film. Her absence could be for a number of reasons, stemming from too many characters already on the calendar to her absence hinting at an eventual plot reveal or turn for the character. It could even be something as simple as not being on the cover but still being featured inside the calendar or on the back cover.Eternals is being teased as one of the most ambitious Marvel films to date. It's directed by Chloé Zhao, whose recent film Nomadland premiered on Hulu and has been garnering critical acclaim and awards buzz. Kevin Feige called Zhao's pitch for Eternals "the best he'd ever heard," and the director has admitted that Marvel has taken a big risk on the movie. She has teased an epic film that spans centuries, filming on multiple locations, and has cited The Revenant as a reference for its action scenes. She is teasing a very different movie for not only herself but for the MCU at large.
