Academy Award-winning actor Jon Voight has held several critically acclaimed roles through the years, but none would compare to working alongside daughter Angelina Jolie Pitt – with the star doing what she does best behind the camera."I love my daughter, and I'm very impressed by her directing," Voight tells Cigar Aficionado in its December cover story, out Oct. 27. "I thought Unbroken was brilliant … now I'd like to be directed by her." Jolie Pitt made her directorial debut with 2011's In the Land of Blood and Honey, which preceded last year's release of Unbroken, a biographical account of Olympian Louis Zamperini's life after a near-fatal plane crash. While she is still spending time in front of the camera – including in the upcoming drama By the Sea, which she also directed and stars in alongside real-life husband Brad Pitt – Jolie has repeatedly voiced her passion of directing."I've loved being an actor, but I'm happier shining a light on actors," she previously told PEOPLE.

A 2014 movie depicting the life of a former American prisoner of war tortured by the Japanese imperial army will finally open in Japan after online campaigns failed to stop it.“Unbroken,” directed by Angelina Jolie and released in the U.S. in December 2014, will open in Japanese theaters in February next year. Conservative netizens had criticized the film, saying it is “anti-Japanese” and wrongfully focuses on the imperial army’s brutality. The film tells the story of Olympic athlete Louis Zamperini, who endured torture during his two years at a Japanese prison camp during World War II. Japanese actor and musician Takamasa Ishihara, known as Miyavi, plays a sadistic guard. An employee at Bitters End Inc., which will be distributing the film, said the backlash caused the delay in the film’s release in Japan. The movie is currently scheduled to play at a theater in Shibuya, but will expand to other locations, she said. The film is based on the book “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption,” by author Laura Hillenbrand. The movie’s title in Japan will be “Fukutsu-no Otoko Unbroken,” which can be translated as “The Indomitable Man: Unbroken.” The film is a true story of a man “who survived hell for two years at a prisoner camp,” the promotional poster says.“Unbroken” was nominated in three categories, including best cinematography, at the Academy Awards in February, but didn’t win any awards.

But life is short.''The brunette beauty can't wait to turn 50 in 2025 after undergoing a ''brutal'' preventative double mastectomy as well removing her ovaries and fallopian tubes to reduce her cancer risk in recent years. She told the November issue of Vogue magazine: ''Both of the women in my family, my mother and my grandmother [who passed due to ovarian cancer], started dying in their 40s. I'm 40. I can't wait to hit 50 and know I made it.''The Oscar winner says going public with her health issues ''really connected'' her to other women, but the surgeries were a ''hard'' process. She explained: ''They are not easy surgeries. The ovaries are an easy surgery, but the hormone changes - interesting. We did joke that I had my Monday edit. Tuesday surgery. Wednesday go into menopause. Thursday come back to edit, a little funky with my steps.''
