Deadline is reporting the long-gestating remake of classic epic Cleopatra has scored a new writer to help bring the story back to the big screen.David Scarpa (The Day The Earth Stood Still) has signed on to the project, which is based on the bestselling book Cleopatra: A Life by Stacy Schiff. Producers Scott Rudin and Amy Pascal are behind the film, which has Angelina Jolie (By The Sea) still attached to play the title character.A new version has been in the offing for many years, with both James Cameron (Avatar) and David Fincher (Gone Girl) at one time or another attached to direct. The two most famous versions of Cleopatra were released in 1934 and 1963 respectively: the earlier version starred Claudette Colbert and Warren William, with the latter starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, which – despite its famous production problems that closed the doors of 20th Century Fox for a time – went on to gross $55 million, or around $584 million adjusted for inflation.

Now that we know how “totally zonkered” Burt Reynolds was when he shot his infamous Cosmopolitan spread, it’s time to check back in with the Bandit about the fate of our country. In fact, we probably should have consulted with him sooner. “I don’t think there’s any question that Donald is going to be nominated,” Reynolds, who identifies as neither a Republican nor a Democrat, told The Daily Beast in an exclusive interview. “You know, our current president has kind of messed things up the last four years. But I don’t know who I would vote for.” Reynolds’ support for Trump has a complicated backstory, however, as both were heavily involved with the ill-fated United States Football League in the ‘80s. The actor, who co-owned the Tampa Bay Banditsblames the downfall of the USFL on Trump’s “personal ambitions.” Yup, sounds about right! “I’m worried about Donald in terms of us getting into a war, because he’s all for certain things,” Reynolds explained. “I like him very much personally. I know him, and I like him. He’s always been nice and sweet and kind to me. But he seems to be like a sheriff that’s quick on the draw.” In his eyes, there’s only one man he’d endorse for president: Jon Voight. Talk about a twist, right? Describing the actor as “an answer to our problems,” Reynolds goes on to hardcore stan for Voight for Prez 2016. “If any actor was going to run for office, it should be Jon Voight,” Reynolds remarked. “I think he’s quite brilliant in terms of handling himself and he always knows what’s going on in politics.” But according to Reynolds, Voight “gets red in the face” when a potential candidacy is mentioned, so he has another option in mind: Angelina Jolie. “It’s Jon Voight’s daughter that should run,” he said laughing according to The Daily Beast. “I like her a lot. She’s not afraid to tackle anything, and she’s a very, very sweet girl.” We don’t know about “sweet,” but yes, Angie gets stuff done.
