Angelina Jolie has written a foreword for a children's book, These Rights Are Your Rights. On Tuesday, Amnesty International announced it is launching a new book with Andersen Press on children's rights for primary school students. The book is released as children return to school and ahead of the Government's review of the national curriculum, which starts this month. In her preface, Jolie spoke directly to children.Meanwhile, she is still battling ex-husband Brad Pitt for custody of their two youngest children, Vivienne and Knox. The stars have been fighting over their six kids - which also include adults Maddox, Pax, Shiloh and Zahara - for eight years. Jolie's words in her preface were inspiring.'Children everywhere, from the moment you are born, you have the same rights as every other child,' wrote the Oscar-winning actress. 'Laws get broken all the time, but it is harder for this to happen if we know what they are and what can be done to stop it.'That is what this book is about… This book tells you what your rights are, where they come from and why they matter... When young people join together, you are an unstoppable force.'These Rights Are Your Rights is written for children and is informed by children.'In light-touch words and pictures, with fun facts and jokes, it explains what child rights are, how they came into being, how governments are failing to uphold them and equips young people with the knowledge they need to protect themselves and others,' the press release reads.'It shows how child rights apply online too, with advice on how to stay safe from cyberbullying, grooming and dark algorithm.'It is illustrated by inspiring stories of children who took action when their rights were being denied. One story is from Sweden's Greta Thunberg, who mobilized school children around the world to demand politicians take meaningful action on climate change. The book has guidance on how to recognize fake news, build skills in how to raise awareness and 'strengthen their confidence.'Alice Sims, Amnesty International UK's Human Rights Education Manager, said: 'This book is ideal for Key Stage 2 - its child-friendly style speaks to children directly and is also useful for teachers and parents to understand and discuss their rights with them.'These Rights Are Your Rights written by Nicky Parker at Amnesty International and illustrated by Sue Cheung, is published by Andersen Press and is available September 5.Meanwhile, Jolie looks to have a hit on her hands with the film Maria.
This comes off an enormous victory for the actress: she received two standing ovations for her new movie Maria Callas at film festivals: one in Venice, the other in Telluride. Jolie was grateful for the support of director Pablo Larrain as she learned opera for Maria. The 49-year-old star plays soprano Maria Callas in the new biopic and was thankful that the Spencer filmmaker understood how much effort was needed for the part.Speaking to Variety about the difficulties of performing opera, Angelina said: 'It wasn't easy. I was fortunate to have a director who truly understood and respected opera. He knew how much work was required and assembled a team around me to teach me.'He made sure I had the classes I needed and gave me the space to practice. From the beginning, he understood that I needed extra time to prepare, and he always supported my transformation process.'Angelia explained that it was 'daunting' to take on the role of Callas but was delighted to be working with the Chilean filmmaker who she has long admired. The 'Eternals' star said: 'You always hope to work with directors you've admired, and I've wanted to work with Pablo for a while. It is a gift to take on something like this, knowing you're in good hands and can push yourself to the edge because they'll catch you.'Her music was daunting, but it's good to feel scared. As an artist, being so challenged that you're unsure if you can do it is a great feeling.'The biopic received an eight-minute standing ovation when it premiered at the Venice Film Festival last week and Jolie explained that she spent the time reflecting on the legacy of the opera diva – who passed away aged just 53 after spending her final years living in isolation after her partner Aristotle Onassis left her for Jackie Kennedy.

Angelina Jolie cut a glamorous figure while attending the Telluride Film Festival in Telluride, Colorado on Sunday, after recently avoiding a run-in with her ex Brad Pitt. The Tomb Raider actress, 49, wowed in a flowing grey dress with long sleeves, which she paired with pointed-toe heels. The star — whose ex-husband, 60, made his red carpet debut with girlfriend Ines de Ramon, 34, on Sunday — shielded her eyes with a pair of black sunglasses. While at the event she mingled with a number of celebrity pals, including actress Naomi Watts, 55. The mom-of-six — who recently broke down in tears amid her divorce war — was seen adorably petting a small dog Naomi carried in a baby wrap. Naomi opted for an effortlessly chic look in a sleeveless white tank top and blue jeans. Angelina also posed with actress Embeth Davidtz, 59, who looked chic in a long-sleeve top, white pants and white sneakers. She also caught up with Pharrell Williams, Danielle Deadwyler, Malcolm Washington, and Pauletta Washington. The star is busy promoting her latest film, Maria, where she plays the legendary opera singer Maria Callas. Her appearance comes after she narrowly missed an awkward reunion with Pitt who arrived in Venice Film Festival just days after she attended her premiere in the city. The actor looked every inch the Hollywood heartthrob as he arrived alongside his co-star and friend George Clooney, 63, at the International Film Festival. The A-listers were pictured looking dapper as they arrived by water taxi ahead of the premiere of their film Wolfs which is screening at the festival on Sunday night.Angelia's film - Maria - premiered on Thursday evening after she recently hinted at the heavy emotional toll which her divorce from Brad has taken on her.
The superstar shared that she has been through 'despair' and 'pain.' The former power couple are in the midst of a battle over their French winery, Château Miraval, and custody of their six children. His arrival came after artistic director Alberto Barbera revealed he and Angelina were strategically scheduled to avoid any chance of running into one another. He told Vanity Fair: 'Angelina will be on the first day, on Thursday August 29 and she will leave right after to go to Telluride Film Festival in Colorado.''So Brad will arrive only on Saturday. There is no way that they can cross each other at the Lido.'It has been reported that neither Brad nor Angelina made the request, but that the event were 'wise enough to realise', claimed Page Six.Meanwhile on Sunday Brad looked dapper as he made his red carpet debut with his glamorous girlfriend Ines - a jewellery designer who he has been dating for around two years - at the premiere of Wolfs at Venice Film Festival. It was a double-date night as Brad's long-time buddy George, 63, was at the event with his wife Amal, 46, an international human rights lawyer, who turned heads in a glamorous yellow dress.Ines showed off her toned figure in a white one-shoulder number that had ruched detailing and was teamed with a silver sequin handbag and statement earrings.De Ramon, who is also divorced, moved in with Brad in Los Angeles in February this year and the couple have gone from strength to strength since. It is Brad's first serious relationship since his divorce from Angelina.Brad and Ines were first linked in November 2022 after they were spotted at a Bono concert.
Angelina split from her film star husband after a disputed incident on a plane in 2016.She has said in court documents that he assaulted her and some of their six children and poured wine and beer on the family in a rage. He has always denied being violent towards her or the family. The couple's split has also affected their six children. Earlier this month their daughter Shiloh, 18, legally dropped her father's surname. They are also parents to Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16.This comes amid recent claims that Pitt and Jolie's divorce - which has now dragged on for eight years - is still ongoing as neither of the stars can 'let it go.'A source told People 'their disagreements took over' in the relationship, adding that things 'turned nasty and it was not a good situation for anyone.''All the bitterness is partly why the divorce has dragged on for so many years. Neither will let it go. You’d think they would be over it and just settle.' Another source of recent stress for the actress has been her son Pax's terrifying bike crash, which left him hospitalized.Pax was released from ICU earlier this month, after being treated for crashing his electric bike into the back of a car stopped for a red light on Los Feliz Boulevard in Los Angeles on July 29.He now begins the long road of recovery and physical therapy - and Angelina has been there every step of the way.Meanwhile Brad reportedly feels completely helpless his son is still refusing to have any contact with him as he recovers. An insider exclusively told DailyMail.com that Brad also wishes his family dynamic wasn't divided and that he wasn't getting 'radio silence' about his son's health.

Angelina Jolie continues to earn widespread acclaim for her highly anticipated new film, Maria. The Oscar winner's portrayal of opera legend Maria Callas received a standing ovation at the Telluride Film Festival on Monday, according to People.A visibly moved Jolie, 49, covered her mouth and placed a hand on her chest as she expressed her gratitude to the audience, per the outlet. The Telluride screening comes after Angelina wept during an eight-minute standing ovation the world premiere of Maria at the Venice Film Festival on Thursday. This comes on the heels of her ex Brad Pitt’s new film Wolfs, costarring George Clooney, which also premiered at Venice but was met with harsh reviews from critics.During a post-screening panel at Telluride, Jolie reflected on the nerves she felt on her first day singing as Callas on set. 'I had seven months of opera classes, great teachers and Italian classes, and a supportive team that were going to help me,' she said, according to People. 'I was so nervous that morning I was out of my mind.'The actress also spoke highly of her experience working with director Pablo Larraín, 48, expressing her admiration for their collaboration. 'I knew that as long as I gave my best, Pablo would be okay with it and somehow make it work. 'I knew I needed to do my best to try to help solve the puzzle, but I knew that he was a kind person and he was supportive and that helped.'Meanwhile, Wolfs marks the first time Pitt and Clooney and have shared the screen since 2008’s Burn After Reading.
In this new project, the iconic duo plays fixers who are tasked with covering up crimes, but find themselves reluctantly teaming up when assigned to the same job.At the premiere, Clooney reflected on his longstanding professional and personal relationship with Pitt.'There's nothing good about it,' he joked to People. 'It's all a disaster.'On a more serious note, George added, 'It's fun to work with people you know really well.'However, the new buddy-cop film has been eviscerated by critics, who have branded it a one-star 'messy' dud and an 'unbearable comedy.' Wolfs, the $200 million Apple TV+ film that is set to debut in theaters on September 20, follows the two Ocean's Eleven costars as they are forced to begrudgingly work together to 'fix' a problem that arises when a tough-on-crime DA wakes up with a dead 20-something with whom she was having a one-night stand. But critics say the movie — which had a record-breaking budget for any streaming film — falls flat, with IGN's Siddhant Adlakha slamming it as a 'slick student film from a rich teen who's subsisted on a media diet of early Guy Ritchie.'The Guardian's Xan Brooks also wrote that the 'joke might be on' director Jon Watts, who made a fortune off of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man trilogy, 'because what he's made is basically the film of the meme in which two Spideys point at each other.' And The Telegraph's Robbie Collin called the film 'messy,' writing: 'George Clooney recently complained that Quentin Tarantino doesn't consider him a movie star. If he makes more films like this, Clooney will soon prove Tarantino right.' He and the other critics say Watts seemed to have banked on Clooney's and Pitt's star-status to make it a box office hit, with a lackluster plot and a 'half-baked script with little humor or heart.'Barry Levitt, of the Daily Beast, argued that all the jokes surround the single idea that neither character wants to work with the other. 'Driving along with Clooney and Pitt in Wolfs captures all the thrilling fun of your kids shouting, "Are we there yet?" ad infinitum,' Levitt writes. 'It repeats the same joke over and over (and over again). And just when you think Wolfs might be interested in moving onto fresh material, it attempts the same punchline again, in its 400th variation.'

Angelina Jolie would like to leave Los Angeles, where the daughter of Jon Voight grew up with single mom Marcheline Bertrand in the Beverly Hills area. The 49-year-old Oscar-winner told the September 4 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine on Friday that she would prefer to live in a country like Cambodia, where there is more privacy. That is where the Maleficent actress finds more 'humanity.'But the star - whose next film is about Maria Callas - cannot pack up and go because she is still struggling with her divorce from Brad Pitt which is going on eight years.Because they are continuing to hammer out the custody agreement with their two minor children, Vivienne and Knox, Jolie is not able to settle somewhere else.Vivienne and Knox become adults when they turn 18-years-old on July 12, 2026.Jolie also co-parented four other children with Pitt, but they are now adults and free to move about the globe as they wish. They are Maddox, 18, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, and Shiloh, 18.Jolie currently lives at a historic residence in Los Feliz, California. It is a beaux arts mansion built for Cecil B. DeMille that she bought after her 2016 separation from Brad.Pitt is in the Los Angeles area. He has been busy making movies, his next is Wolfs with George Clooney. And he dates jewelry executive Ines de Ramon.'I grew up in this town. I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave,' Jolie told The Hollywood Reporter.'When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety.'I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be… that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here. '[After Los Angeles,] I’ll spend a lot of time in Cambodia. I’ll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world.'The artist also spoke about how she loves to have people around her.'I like to be with people I love. I’m not somebody begging to be alone. I’m not that person that feels like, “Oh, I wish I could just be alone so I could have my guilty pleasures.” 'Because usually my guilty pleasure is being with somebody. I love doing something that makes them happy. That really does make me happy.'
And she doesn't have a lot of Hollywood pals as she brings up 'betrayal.''I don’t really have those kinds of relationships,' added the Gia actress.'Maybe it’s losing your parent young. Maybe it’s working. Maybe it’s being somebody who’s been betrayed a lot.'I don’t have a lot of those warm, close relationships as much that I lean on. But I have a few, and a few is enough. Loung [Ung, the Cambodian American human rights activist] is one of my closest friends. 'My mother was very close to me. I lost her. I’ve had a few friends over the years not be there for my family in their hour of need. I have a couple of people that I trust. What did Maria Callas die with? Two trusted people.' Also in her interview, Jolie talked about her feelings toward Hollywood.'I was an artist early to just help my mom pay bills,' she said.'I've had times where I've loved being an artist and I've had times where I felt very, very far away from being comfortable in the business. I'm hoping to be able to have a new relationship with it.' She has two new films. Maria, about opera singer Maria Callas, and Without Blood, the war drama she wrote and directed from Alessandro Baricco’s 2002 novel. She said her film Maria is very personal to her and it really touched her.And Jolie felt for the singer.'People were quite aggressive when she wasn’t able to be what they wanted her to be. They were very unkind, and she carried a lot of trauma and she worked very, very hard. I just began to really care about her and wanted that aspect of the story to be told,' she told HR. She also said she had an emotional reaction when she was taught to express herself as an opera singer.'My first class, I cried. I was sad, I was scared. It was a strange physical body reaction.'I stood there, and [the instructor] said, “OK, just be in your body. Take a deep breath, let it all out and just open your mouth and just let that sound come from the inside.” 'And that’s when I became really emotional. You discover how much we lock our pain in our bodies. 'Our voice gets tight, our shoulders go high, we get stomach aches, we do all these things, and it’s a protection for us. The hardest thing was feeling again and breathing again and opening again in the way that this film required that I had really not done for quite a while.'
And she is drawn to creating. 'I wish I knew how to be still and calm. I’m propelled forward constantly, and it’s not always the best feeling. For better or for worse, I’m a very deeply feeling person and kind of a raw nerve. So when I feel something deeply, I jump. I feel alive or I connect to something true inside myself.'Angelina said someone in a 'past relationship' told her she could never sing which held her back for years. 'So it took me getting past a lot of things to start singing.'And she was glad sons Maddox and Pax were there for her on the set of Maria to comfort her when a scene got tough. They worked as assistant directors.'You really try to hide from your children how much pain and sadness you carry. And so for them to be with you when you’re expressing it at such a level, I think it was the first time they ever Heard me cry like that. That’s usually for the shower.'Next up? She would to play a real villain, not a mean person who is deep down good like Maleficent, but someone very twisted.

Angelina Jolie has played a lot of tough characters on the big screen, such as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider and Evelyn Salt in Salt. But in real life, the 49-year-old Oscar winning actress is actually soft, she said while at the Venice Film Festival. When asked by a reporter how she related to opera singer Maria Callas, whom Jolie is playing in a new Netflix movie titled Maria, she explained.'I think the way I related to her may be a surprise — [it was] probably the part of her that's extremely soft,' said Jolie at a panel on Thursday, according to People. The star continued, 'And she doesn't have room in the world to be as soft as she truly was, and as emotionally open as she truly was.'Jolie was hinting that she has hidden her soft side due to her enormous fame. This comes after Jolie shed tears when she received an eight minute standing ovation for her film Maria. The mother of six was seen wiping away tears as the claps continued. Jolie also said during her panel that she worked very hard to star as Callas in a movie. She said she spent almost seven months training her voice so she could sing opera because she does not want to 'disappoint' Maria's fans. And she was asked about the word diva, which is what Callas was called.'I think it's often come with a lot of negative connotations,' said Jolie.'I think I've re-learned that word through Maria... and I have a new relationship to it.'I think it is often other people's perception of a woman that defines, sometimes too much, who she is and who she was, or what she intended,' she added.'And I actually think [Maria] was one of the hardest-working people, who didn't hurt anybody.'So I suppose it's everybody in this room that makes that definition sometimes, but the true definition may be [that] the great composers define it differently,' Jolie said.
Netflix has acquired the rights to Maria, but a release date has not yet been announced. Earlier Jolie said she got her sons to block the door of her rehearsal room when she was training to sing like Maria Callas. The Maleficent actress said: 'Everybody here knows I was terribly nervous about the singing. 'I spent almost seven months training because when you work with (director) Pablo (Larrain) you can't do anything by half.'He demands in a most wonderful way that that you really do the work and really learn and train.'My first time singing I was so nervous that my sons were there and they helped to block the door so that nobody else was coming in.'And I was shaky. Pablo in his decency started me in a small room and ended me in La Scala.'So he gave me a time to grow. I was frightened to live up to her and you know I had not sung in public.'Angelina plays Maria when the singing icon was nearing death and losing her voice. The opera legend is still idolized as the greatest voice in the history of opera and died in 1977 aged 53 after a spell of illness and isolation.Angelina's grueling role comes as she continues to battle her Fight Club ex-husband Brad Pitt, 60, over the custody of their six children and over the shares she sold in their Château Miraval winery in France. The actress filed for divorce from Brad in 2016 and the pair were awarded joint custody of their kids by a judge in May 2021.After the ruling, Angelina decided to sell her chunk of her and Brad's vineyard, which has plunged them into an epic and complex legal battle.A source has told Page Six Brad is refusing to let go of the fight over the business as he sees it as an asset for his children. The insider added: 'It's important that people realize that Brad's motivation is to ensure that his kids can maximize the benefit of this asset.'Once it was sold, that's no longer the case and it significantly decreased their inheritance.'
