Angelina Jolie looked on proudly as her close friend Akala and son Pax shared a sweet embrace at Maria premiere in New York on Sunday night. The actress, 49, attended the premiere of her new film Maria with her sons Pax, 20,and Maddox, 23, and daughter Zahara, 19, during the 62nd New York Film Festival. And shortly after the star-studded night, Angelina was overcome with joy as she watched Akala, 40, and Pax hug.In recent months, Angelina sparked romance rumours with British rapper Akala after the pair were seen emerging from her hotel in Italy during Venice Film Festival. However, sources confirmed that the couple are not an item, with an insider telling that Angelina 'is friends with him and his partner, Chanelle [Newman] who was also there'.In the wake of her bitter split from Brad Pitt, Angelina grew close with the rapper and political activist. Yet the pair do share a strong bond, with a second source stating: 'They share the same passion when it comes to social and humanitarian causes.'They did several collabs over the years that focus on global issues like human rights. Angie speaks very highly of him.' It had been claimed by In Touch that the actress had been privately seeing the musician for 'more than a year'. However, People's source claimed Angelina is 'currently single and not dating seriously'. MailOnline contacted Angelina's representatives for comment at the time. It seems Angelina's children are also fond of the rapper following Pax's encounter with him at the premiere. Pax appeared in great spirits following the horrific e-bike accident he was involved in this past July, which landed him in the hospital. The actress wowed in an elegant white dress with a pleated skirt, which she paired with peep-toe black heels.
Her daughter Zahara matched her in a silk white dress. Maddox rocked a classic black suit, while Pax sported a grey one, as well as a black wrist brace.Missing from action were her three younger kids, Shiloh, 18, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 16, whom she shares with ex-husband Brad Pitt, 60. The pair have been involved in a bitter ongoing divorce battle since their split in 2016. Angelina's sons also worked in the AD department on the set of Maria — directed by Pablo Larraín — and she admitted the work is good for them. She told The Hollywood Reporter: 'They've done that quite a few times, and I think that's good for them. Pax tends to do stills and he gets brought in, and Pablo was wonderful and recognized that he was good at it'. The actress was also grateful to have her sons around to support her because playing opera start Maria Callas was so emotionally exhausting. She added: 'It really meant a lot that my boys were with me on Maria. When I would have really heavy times, they would come over and just give me a hug or a cup of tea.' 'That was probably one of the more intense things was that - usually when I'm expressing that much pain, it's not in front of my children. You really try to hide from your children how much pain and sadness you carry.' 'And so for them to be with you when you're expressing it at such a level, I think it was the first time they ever heard me cry like that. That's usually for the shower.' The first trailer for Maria dropped last week. The film opens in the last days of the soprano's life and looks back on all the triumphs and tragedies along the way. Callas died of a heart attack at her Paris home on September 16, 1977. She was 53. Angelina said that roles like Callas come along 'once in a lifetime,' adding, 'I mean, it’s certainly the most challenging,' Deadline reported. To portray the opera singer, Jolie spent seven months learning six of the late singer's most famous arias.

The actress wowed in an elegant white dress with a pleated skirt, which she paired with peep-toe black heels. Her daughter matched her in a silk white dress. Maddox rocked a classic black suit, while Pax sported a grey one, as well as a black wrist brace. Missing from action were her three younger kids, Shiloh, 18, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 16, whom she shares with ex-husband Brad Pitt, 60. The pair have been involved in a bitter ongoing divorce battle since their split in 2016. Angelina's blonde tresses were parted on the side and cascaded down her shoulders and back. She added a pop of color to her look with a striking red lipstick. The star also wore dangling diamond earrings. The doting mom held hands with Pax and had her other arm wrapped around Zahara. Pax smiled at the cameras while rocking black sunglasses. His appearance comes following the horrific e-bike accident he was involved in this past July, which landed him in the hospital. Angelina's sons also worked in the AD department on the set of Maria — directed by Pablo Larraín — and she admitted the work is good for them. She told The Hollywood Reporter: 'They've done that quite a few times, and I think that's good for them. To portray the opera singer, Jolie spent seven months learning six of the late singer's most famous arias. And Jolie was also excited to work with director Pablo saying, 'This kind of work is not asked of me very often. And if it’s asked of me, it’s not often with this kind of material and this director, so these things come once in a lifetime.' Her experience making the film 'was beyond anything I could imagine, and it was a gift emotionally for me,' she said, adding that the role, 'changed me as a person. It helped heal a part of me.' The Netflix film hits theaters in the U.S. on November 27 and debuts on the streamer on December 11. It is considered to be a major awards season contender and premiered to an eight-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival.
Angelina has a close bond with her kids, and recently revealed that she and daughter Vivienne, 16, both got the phrase 'Stay Gold' tatted after working together on the Broadway play The Outsiders. The movie star revealed the tattoos in an interview with CR Fashion Book - five months after her inking was first seen - while walking The Outsiders opening red carpet. 'I got "Stay Gold" with my daughter Viv during out time with The Outsiders. It means so much to us separately and together,' Angelina told the outlet. Vivienne chose to leave dad Brad's last name off The Outsiders playbill - opting for Vivienne Jolie. The mother of six also revealed her bird tattoo on her chest is another inking that she shares with 'some' of her kids. The actress did not reveal which of her six children have the bird tattoo with her. In August, Angelina and Brad's daughter Shiloh dropped her Pitt surname, legally changing her name to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie - previously Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. Her appearance with her kids comes after she dropped her two year legal battle against the Department of Justice and the FBI over documents relating to abuse allegations she made against ex Brad. Angelina and Brad started dating in 2004 and married 10 years later – but split in 2016 and have been since been embroiled in bitter battles over child custody and ownership deals linked to their French vineyard. Angelina Jolie was seen in the first trailer for her movie Maria. The 49-year-old star is playing famed opera singer Maria Callas. The clip starts with Maria in her older years walking onto a stage with a man seated at a piano. Jolie's Maria looks out at the empty seats as she flashes back to her earlier years. There is a quick montage of her looking younger and gorgeous. She is also seen on a yacht with Aristotle Onassis, her former lover. Then she is seen in Paris, crying, having a meltdown in a courtyard, and working on her voice. She is not heard singing, however. The film, according to a synopsis, 'follows the American-Greek soprano as she retreats to Paris after a glamorous and tumultuous life in the public eye.' Maria 'reimagines the legendary soprano in her final days as the diva reckons with her identity and life.' She died in Paris in 1977 of a heart attack at age 53. The highly anticipated movie will come out in theaters in November then stream on Netflix in December.Netflix is set to release the film in U.S. theaters on November 27 before it debuts on the streaming platform on December 11. It is a massive undertaking for the star. Speaking at a press conference for the movie at the Venice Film Festival, she said: 'I was terribly nervous; I spent almost seven months training. 'My first time singing, I remember being so nervous. My sons were there and they helped to block the door [so] that nobody else was coming in, and I was shaky. 'And [director Pablo Larraín], in his decency, started me in a small room and ended me in La Scala. So he gave me time to grow. I was frightened to live up to [Callas].'
Angelina joked that, after making the movie, she might even get involved in karaoke nights in the future. Asked if she has a favourite karaoke song, she quipped: 'I didn't sing before this [movie] so I haven't done karaoke, but now maybe I have a few!' Jolie revealed earlier this month that she loved to sing but stopped after an ex criticized her voice. She did not name the cruel ex.The actress - who was previously married to Johnny Lee Miller, Billy Bob Thornton and Brad Pitt - admitted her role as opera singer Maria in Maria was challenging because she had to overcome her fears about airing her vocals in public. She told The Hollywood Reporter: 'It was an out-of-body experience because I don't sing. 'I had somebody in my life who was not kind to me about singing. It was a relationship I was in. And so I just assumed I couldn't really sing. 'I'd been to theatre school, so it was weird that it even had an effect on me. I just kind of adapted to this person's opinion. So it took me getting past a lot of things to start singing.' She told IndieWire last week she wasn't very familiar with opera music before she began shooting Maria. The Oscar-winning actress confessed: 'I grew up in America. In other countries, they understand how essential and important it is, and it's much more a part of the culture, but not where I was raised [Los Angeles]. 'I had been introduced to [Maria] but it was a complete discovery of this new art form, to come in and transform my life and teach me all of the different operas. 'I hope that most people however they relate to the film go into a discovery and they let themselves feel it and they try to sing it. If I can do it…'
Angelina recently revealed that she spent 'months' preparing to sing in Maria. The actress said at the Telluride Film Festival: 'I had seven months of opera classes, great teachers and Italian classes, and a supportive team that were going to help me. 'When I was younger, there were certain pieces of music and certain sounds that matched what I was feeling: I was falling in love, or I was curious about this, or whatever I was going through. 'There is nothing that meets what you're feeling like opera,' added the movie star. '[Some pieces] are so beautiful, so full of hope and so full of yearning. 'Opera is bigger. It is bigger than we allow ourselves to feel in every moment.' Angelina - who has Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, with Brad - recently thanked her sons for helping ease her nerves about singing in the film. Netflix is set to release Maria in U.S. theaters on November 27 before it debuts on the streaming platform on December 11.

On Monday, Netflix announced it will start streaming Pablo Larraín's biopic Maria - starring Angelina Jolie as the legendary opera singer Maria Callas - on December 11 after hitting select US theaters on November 27.But first, the 49-year-old Oscar winner will reunite with the 48-year-old Chilean filmmaker for a post-screening Q&A at Alice Tully Hall in Manhattan during the New York Film Festival next Sunday and Monday. The 122-minute movie - which received an eight-minute standing ovation in Venice on August 29 - will then screen at film festivals in the Hamptons, London, Chicago, and Los Angeles.Maria currently has a 75% critic approval rating (out of 44 reviews) on Rotten Tomatoes. It marks the third and final film in Pablo's trilogy of iconic women, succeeding Jackie (2016) and Spencer (2021), which scored both Natalie Portman and Kristen Stewart Oscar nominations.Angelina has already received Academy Award buzz for her portrayal of the New York-born Greek belter, who rehearses for an imagined performance that never comes to be as a camera crew led by Stranger Things star Kodi Smit-McPhee films her.Jolie - who had never sung onscreen or in public - spent seven months training with vocal coach Eric Vetro; whose clients include Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, John Legend, Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, Rosalía, and Charlie Puth. And while Maria is mostly set in the seventies, the former Hollywood wild child appears to recreate Callas' (born Kalogeropoulos) 1958 performance at a Paris gala, which was broadcast through Eurovision.
Two-time Oscar-nominated prosthetics designer Arjen Tuiten was hired to transform Angelina's face, but she still appears to have her own tiny nose rather than the characteristically large one Maria had in real life. The Maria ensemble cast also includes Valeria Golino, Haluk Bilginer, Alba Rohrwacher, Pierfrancesco Favino, and Alessandro Bressanello.Callas' powerful soprano pipes had three distinct registers and measured just short of three octaves, and she performed her final concert in 1965 following a decline blamed on everything from dermatomyositis, to early onset menopause, to her extreme 80lb weight loss in 1954.Maria - who had an affair with Aristotle Onassis while he was married to former FLOTUS Jacqueline Kennedy - spent her last 11 years living in Paris after renouncing her American citizenship, and she died at age 53, from a heart attack in 1977.It marks Jolie's first acting role since Chloé Zhao's dismally-reviewed 2021 MCU flick Eternals. The Tony-winning producer has similarly scored a 33% critic approval rating (out of 12 reviews) for her fifth feature directorial effort Without Blood following its September 8th world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
