Michael Douglas Praises Angelina Jolie: 'She Risked Her Career By Talking Openly About Cancer Ordeal’ . Michael Douglas, himself a cancer survivor, has praised Angelina Jolie for going public about her double mastectomy.The Lara Croft actress revealed earlier this year she'd undergone preventative surgery after discovering she carried the “faulty” BRCA gene which gave her an 87% chance of contracting breast cancer and 50% chance of ovarian cancer, the disease her mother died of in 2007 at just 56.The Behind the Candelabra actor, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2010, told GQ magazine, "Angelina is one of the greatest beauties in the world, so for her to come out publicly and expose it, in her profession, that takes real courage.“She probably could have gotten away with doing it privately, but now she's got it out there, taken control of the situation and raised awareness. I applaud her."Meanwhile, the 68-year-old star and Welsh beauty Catherine Zeta Jones recently announced that they are currently “taking time apart to work on their marriage”, but according to the Hollywood hero things are “fine” between him and his wife of 13 years.Michael and Catherine have yet to make any attempts to file for divorce or legally separate but are believed to be “working through their differences”.A friend close to the couple revealed to The Sun, “Michael is still talking to Catherine and their family and friends are trying to help them work through their issues.”
