Salma Hayek recalled how she and Angelina Jolie were 'passionately screaming at each other' on the set of their new movie, Without Blood. Jolie and Hayek, who worked as director and actress, respectively, on the film, recently opened up about their unfiltered conversations and the type of dynamic they have with each other. 'I haven't had that kind of connection in my life,' Jolie, 51, told People in an interview published on Saturday. Hayek, who recently celebrated her 60th birthday by stripping down for a nude swim, said they were often 'crying,' 'cracking up' and 'passionately screaming at each other' while filming together in the summer of 2022. She also said their conversations on set were 'delicious' and 'very organic.' 'I love her mind and I get her,' she said about working with Jolie and being directed by her. 'So I think when you know somebody gets you, you feel safe and you can be whoever you are in whatever circumstances,' she added.Jolie, who previously starred alongside Hayek in the 2021 Marvel movie Eternals, also highlighted their connection because of their 'similar' life experiences. 'I think it's so nice we met at this later stage in our life,' Jolie said. 'Because we've both been through so many similar things, experienced different things, and somehow have landed as older women in a very similar place,' she explained. 'Even though I'm much older than her, by the way,' Hayek quipped.'Not that much older,' Jolie responded, laughing. 'To appreciate the friendship and that bond and that understanding, I haven't had that kind of a connection in my life.'
Hayek also concurred, adding: 'It's hard to find that connection, and I think that's what part of the movie is also about, how difficult it is to communicate, to connect.' In their new film Without Blood, which was written, coproduced and directed by Jolie, Hayek stars as Nina, opposite Demián Bechir's character Tito. The war drama is based on Alessandro Baricco's same-name novel. The plot follows a woman named Nina who survived a war and seeks revenge decades after a tragic family massacre. 'Sometimes we would start passionately screaming at each other,' Hayek recalled about her interactions with her director while filming the movie. 'Then I start crying and she hugs me, then we're laughing nonstop,' she continued. 'And from the outside, I could see people say, "What's going on?"' Hayek also said she 'can say whatever' to Jolie. 'She's never offended because it's coming from me. And we're talking about issues, and then we start crying because we're moved, not because we made each other cry... And then we say something stupid and we start cracking up.' Without Blood first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024 before receiving a theatrical release in Italy the following April. The film premiered in theaters across the United States on Friday.

Maddox, 25, has legally removed Pitt from his moniker, following in the footsteps of his younger sibling Shiloh, 20. Meanwhile, Zahara and fraternal twins Vivienne and Knox, 18, have informally stopped using their dad's surname, with plans to legalize the change. A Los Angeles judge granted the name change on Monday, officially making their son's name Maddox Chivan Jolie, per Page Six. 'There are no objections, the petition for change of name is granted,' the court order reviewed by the outlet states. 'The Decree is signed and filed. The Petitioner’s name is changed from Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie.' Maddox attended the Stanley Mosk Courthouse hearing remotely, alongside attorney Peter Levine.Earlier this year, Maddox and Zahara published legal notices in the Los Angeles Daily Journal declaring their intent to drop their father's last name.
Zahara graduate has a scheduled name change hearing on September 28. In July 2024, Shiloh's attorney made a statement about her decision to drop her 62-year-old dad's last name. She filed for the change on her birthday in May, and it was publicly announced with a legal notice in the Los Angeles Times. Regarding the publicity of the proceeding, Shiloh's lawyer, the aforementioned Levine, shared that she 'made an independent and significant decision following painful events'. He added that she was 'merely following legal process' when publishing the information. One month after Shiloh filed to drop his last name, a source revealed to People that Pitt's relationship with his older kids remained strained. 'He has virtually no contact with the adult kids. His engagement with the younger kids is more limited in recent months because of his filming schedule,' the insider shared at the time. Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston from 2000-2005. 'The film is not about an end for my character but rather about a renewed desire to live life until your last breath which particularly resonates with me at this time in my life. 'I am not sure I was strong enough even five years ago to do this. To be open and trusting to share and be vulnerable again,' Jolie said. 'Things happen in life that take us off path. We lose ourselves and we feel isolated.' Jolie praised Couture as a 'beautifully written piece about women from different countries' and that she believes the film 'has something to say that [she] thought could be useful to people.'
