Angelina Jolie to Present Trophée Chopard Award in Cannes

Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie will attend the 78th Cannes Film Festival to serve as the godmother of the 25th edition of the Trophée Chopard. Jolie will present the trophy to rising stars Marie Colomb and Finn Bennett during a ceremony on Carlton Beach on May 16. The presentation will take place during a dinner co-hosted by Cannes Film Festival president Iris Knobloch, general delegate Thierry Frémaux and Chopard co-president and artistic director Caroline Scheufele.“I am so happy to welcome Angelina Jolie as our Trophée Chopard Godmother,” stated Scheufele. “Her amazing film career and dedication to making a difference in the world make her an ideal role model. I know the rising talents we honor this year will be inspired by her journey and advice.”Winner of the best supporting actress Oscar for “Girl, Interrupted,” Jolie was most recently seen in Pablo Larraín’s “Maria,” and stars in Alice Winocour’s upcoming bilingual drama “Couture,” which she also produced. Jolie’s directing résumé includes “First They Killed My Father” (which she also produced and co-wrote), the Oscar-nominated biopic “Unbroken” and the upcoming film “Without Blood”, based on the novel by Alessandro Baricco. She is also a Tony winner as a producer of the Broadway musical “The Outsiders.” Beyond her work in film, Jolie is known for her humanitarian efforts over the past 20 years.“I am honored to be Godmother at the Cannes Film Festival,” said Jolie. “I am pleased to have a moment to recognize young artists and their exceptional work.”
French actress Colomb is best known for her breakthrough role in the miniseries “Laetitia,” as well as the César-wining film “Les Magnétiques” and “As Bestas,” winner of nine Goya Awards. Colomb also starred in the hit series “Culte,” and continues to build momentum with a slew of film and television projects set for release in 2026. Irish-British actor Bennett was most recently seen in Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza’s “Warfare,” alongside Charles Melton and Will Poulter. He also starred in “Black Doves,” opposite Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw, and appeared in the series “True Detective: Night Country” with Jodie Foster. Bennett will next lead “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” the forthcoming “Game of Thrones” spin-off, in which he stars as Aerion Targaryen.Created in 2001, the Trophée Chopard celebrates emerging international cinema talent, each year honoring one actress and one actor with promising careers. Previous recipients include Marion Cotillard, Diane Kruger, Léa Seydoux, Florence Pugh, Jessie Buckley, Niels Schneider, Jeremy Irvine and Joe Alwyn. The distinction has often heralded more laurels to come with Cotillard going on to win an Oscar; Kruger winning an acting award at Cannes; Seydoux awarded a Palme d’Or; Schneider winning a César Award; and Pugh and Buckley both nominated for Oscars following their ceremonies. Likewise, Jolie joins a prestigious lineup of godmothers and godfathers, including Charlize Theron, Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore, Zhang Ziyi, Julia Roberts, Robert De Niro and Sean Penn. Last year, Demi Moore presented the prize to Sophie Wilde and Mike Faist. Past winners, like Cotillard, Seydoux and Kruger, have also been known to return as godparents once their careers are further along.
