Angelina Jolie is very popular for her humanitarian efforts, but based on her previous statements, the Maleficent star is not very religious.Angelina Jolie produced and directed the movie Unbroken, an American war film. Amo Mama examined the actress’ religious stance and came across a statement she said when she was still promoting the movie.Angelina Jolie scrapped an important detail of the story.Unbroken is based on Laura Hillenbrand’s book of the same title. It follows a former prisoner of war (POW) Louis Zamperini’s journey through trauma to finding God. He was also an Olympic distance runner. The movie was focused on his experiences in a Japanese POW camp. However, it left the central theme of his life’s testimony untouched – his transformation when he found God.Zamperini was hailed as a hero, but he spent years battling post-traumatic syndrome disorder (PTSD) and tormented by his hatred of his captures, especially toward prison guard Mutsuhiro Watanabe, known as “The Bird.” He would self medicate with alcohol. Divorce was imminent at the time until his wife Cynthia convinced him to join her to a Billy Graham service. His life changed from that time on.Zamperini learned to forgive his tormentor and overcame his addiction to alcohol. He became an evangelist and met some prison guard from his POW camp, but The Bird refused to meet him.Jolie made a surprising statement for some about God.Angelina Jolie briefly touched on the focal moment of Zamperini’s life, especially when he attended Billy Graham’s service.Jolie’s suitability to helm the movie about a man’s redemption through faith raised some eyebrows. Many questioned her despite her skills because of a statement she made back in 2000.“There doesn’t need to be a God for me. There’s something in people that’s spiritual, that’s godlike,” she said per Amo Mama. While some criticized Jolie, Zamperini said he made a new friend in Jolie. He also shared how Jolie loved him and hugged and kissed him until he couldn’t complain.Jolie spoke about religion. When Angelina Jolie was asked what she learned from Zamparini, she gave a universal response.“I don’t know if there’s a name for that – religion or faith – just that there’s something greater than all of us, and it’s uniting and beautiful,” she said via People.Angelina Jolie is not straightforward when it comes to her religion. However, she acknowledged that she has a Buddhist son and Christian and Muslim children too. According to several outlets, her mom raised her as Catholic.Meanwhile, his ex Brad Pitt used to be part of Scientology. However, the Ad Astra star left the religion and is no longer part of it.
