Angelina Jolie Pitt is the latest top-tier talent to go the digital route, as the multihyphenate is working with Netflix on “First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers,” a film she will direct for the studio. The pic is based on a memoir from Cambodian author and human-rights activist Loung Ung about surviving the deadly Khmer Rouge regime.Jolie Pitt will direct and produce the Netflix project from a script she co-adapted with Ung. Cambodian director and producer Rithy Panh, helmer of the Oscar-nominated foreign-language film “The Missing Picture,” will also be a producer. The film will be made available to members of the streaming service in late 2016 and will be submitted to major international festivals.Ung was 5 years old when the Khmer Rouge regime assumed power over Cambodia in 1975 and began a four-year reign of terror and genocide in which nearly 2 million Cambodians died. Forced from her family’s home in Phnom Penh, Ung was trained as a child soldier in a work camp for orphans while her six siblings were sent to labor camps. Ung survived and wrote “First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers,” which was first published in 2000. Jolie Pitt read the book and contacted Ung over a decade ago. They became close friends and later adapted the screenplay together.“I was deeply affected by Loung’s book,” Jolie Pitt said. “It deepened forever my understanding of how children experience war and are affected by the emotional memory of it. And it helped me draw closer still to the people of Cambodia, my son’s homeland. It is a dream come true to be able to adapt this book for the screen, and I’m honored to work alongside Loung and filmmaker Rithy Panh.”Jolie Pitt’s Cambodian-born son, Maddox, will also be involved in the production of the film.
Netflix’s global reach was a major factor in Jolie Pitt’s desire to partner with the streaming service. “Films like this are hard to watch but important to see,” said Jolie Pitt. “They are also hard to get made. Netflix is making this possible, and I am looking forward to working with them and excited that the film will reach so many people.” The film will be released in both Khmer and English.“We are proud to be working with Angelina Jolie in bringing this emotionally powerful and ultimately uplifting story exclusively to Netflix members around the world,” said Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos. “Loung Ung’s incredible journey is a testament to the human spirit and its ability to transcend even the toughest circumstances.”“Angelina and I met in 2001 in Cambodia, and immediately, I trusted Angelina’s heart,” Ung said. “Through the years, we have become close friends, and my admiration for Angelina as a woman, a mother, a filmmaker and a humanitarian has only grown. It is with great honor that I entrust my family’s story to Angelina to adapt into a film.”Jolie Pitt is in post-production on “By the Sea,” a drama she wrote and directed, as well as stars in with Brad Pitt; it will be released by Universal this year. Jolie Pitt recently directed Universal’s “Unbroken,” based on the life of Olympian and World War II POW survivor Louis Zamperini. She made her feature directorial debut with “In the Land of Blood and Honey.” She is repped by UTA and Media Talent Group.

‘It was an incredibly brave thing to do - I understand her head space now I'm a mum’: Megan Gale on Angelina Jolie’s decision to have ovaries removed as she fronts cancer awareness campaign

Megan Gale has spoken out in support of Angelina Jolie's decision to have her ovaries and Fallopian tubes removed, saying she can empathise with the actress' 'head space' now that she is a mother herself.‘It was an incredibly brave thing to do and I can definitely understand that head space now that I am a mum myself,’ Megan, 39, told Daily Mail Australia.‘I think you’ve got to be mindful of doing what’s best for your children when you become a mum and you want to be in optimum health so you can look after your child to your best ability… if my kids don’t have me then their quality of life is reduced.’Angelina Jolie made headlines in March after having her ovaries and Fallopian tubes removed, after tests revealed she had the BRCA1 gene that gave her a 50 per cent risk of ovarian cancer.Jolie was open about her surgery, writing a lengthy opinion piece in the New York Times explaining why she decided to do it and the importance of staying healthy for her six children.Supermodel Gale is fronting her fifth ovarian cancer awareness campaign for L'Oreal Paris with the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. The campaign is named #10HOURS, in recognition of how one Australian woman dies every 10 hours from ovarian cancer, and is designed to raise both awareness and funds for the disease, which has no early detection test. Launching on Tuesday, it calls for high profile media influencers to upload an image of themselves wearing the official OCRF #10HOURS T-shirt to social media.
Gale said that while she can relate to the mums who are suffering from ovarian cancer, one of the scariest things for her is that it can occur at any age: ‘It doesn’t discriminate… I’ve met a lot of women who have lived with and are fighting this disease and some of them are in their early twenties,’ she said.‘There is no certain age where you need to be mindful, it can happen to anyone at any time…it’s scary.’‘I’ve been working with the OCRF for a few years now and it’s been a role I’ve been very humbled to be a part of,’ Gale told Daily Mail Australia.‘I didn’t know much about the disease at all before I started working with L’Oreal and with it being so close to their heart, I learned a lot about it, and one of the things that shocked me the most was the scary statistic that one woman dies every 10 hours from it.’ Gale says that the main goal of the 2015 campaign is to work on spreading awareness so funds can be raised and go towards detection technology and research.‘Even though the awareness has been heightened over the years, there is still no early detection so it can’t be prevented even if women are diligent with their check-ups,’ Gale said.‘Our main aim is to really drive home the importance of raising funds so that we can develop the test to detect it earlier and hopefully reduce that statistic and get on top of it.’The OCRF social media campaign will continue for the rest of July and throughout August.

The family had just celebrated twins Knox and Vivienne's seventh birthday with an ice skating outing on July 12th.However, it seems the lucky pair also got a shopping trip in honor of their special day, as they were spotted out with mom Angelina Jolie on Sunday. The 40-year-old was seen walking side-by-side with her twins as they left BookStar in Studio City, California, with each child carrying a tote full of goodies.Angelina looked laid-back for the outing in a loose-fitting black sheer blouse, worn over top of a fitted black tank top.She coupled those with a pair of fitted skinny jeans, and finished off the look with her favorite pair of Chloé nude ballet flats. The mother-of-six accessorized the look with a pair of over-sized sunglasses, and wore a stylish gold watch with a black leather band. She wore her long, dark tresses pulled back into a ponytail, and sported a wide smile as she doted on her two seven-year-old as they left the shop hand-in-hand.Knox matched his mother's casual style, sporting a white graphic T-shirt and a pair of Khaki trousers along with black and white sneakers.Vivienne, meanwhile, donned a more colorful look, sporting a spaghetti strap dress with a bright yellow, green, and pink pattern, and grey flip flops. All three carried large shopping totes following their visit to the Studio City bookstore, which was made without father Brad Pitt, 51, or siblings Maddox, 13, Pax, 11, Zahara, 10, or Shiloh, nine.
Angelina was every bit the doting mom as she gingerly guided her two children back to the car following their shopping trip, as an eager crowd had begun to build up outside of the store to catch a glimpse of the Oscar winner. The previous Sunday the family had been seen treating the birthday pair to an ice skating outing in Los Angeles.'They rented a bus and headed for an afternoon of ice-skating at Iceland Ice Skating Center,' an eyewitness told Us Weekly . 'Knox and Viv were bundled up with snow hats and mittens. They were really excited about it.'The source added: 'Everyone skated for about two hours and they tried out special bumper cars on the ice.''They were spinning around getting dizzy and had a blast. Some of the kids were holding hands as they skated and it was really sweet.'
