Angelina Jolie has called upon the international community to end the Syrian civil war and increase aid for refugees. The actress visited a refugee camp in Azraq, Northern Jordan, in her role as special envoy of UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and met Syrian children displaced by the conflict.Five years into the Syrian conflict, she said brutal violence rages while the UN Security Council remains divided on a political solution. During the trip, following on from her surprise visit as a guest at the UN summit in London yesterday, the Hollywood A-lister mingled with laughing children and delivered a speech. In her role, she focuses on major crises resulting in mass population displacements and engaging with decision-makers on global displacement issues.Yesterday, she stunned delegates from 80 countries with a speech at the major peacekeeping summit, saying the organisation's reputation had been undermined by cases of sexual abuse. Angelina Jolie made a surprise appearance at a major UN peacekeeping summit, where she told delegates from 80 countries that the organisation's reputation had been undermined by intolerable cases of sexual abuse by peacekeepers. She movingly described her desire for justice and accountability of the women she had met in refugee camps who had been abused by international troops.Jolie said: 'We all know that the credibility of UN peacekeeping has been sadly undermined by the actions of a few intolerable cases of women and children being sexually exploited by the very people in charge of protecting them.'
She told a summit of ministers from around the world in London's Lancaster House that countries had to meet their commitments to peacekeeping missions and aid appeals. The summit communique called for the UN to double the number of women in military and police contingents involved in peacekeeping operations by 2020 and promised a 'zero tolerance' approach to sexual exploitation and abuse by troops.Jolie-Pitt told ministers and dignitaries at the meeting: 'The fact is that increasing the number of UN peacekeepers alone will not be enough to resolve the conflicts that we are experiencing.'It has to be accompanied by a new way of conducting peacekeeping, one that has the rights and protection and involvement of women at its heart.' She added: 'The signing of an agreement is actually the easy part.'What is harder and what is much more important is implementation.'We are living through a time of public disillusionment with commitments on paper that are not met in reality; with UN Security Council resolutions that are ignored, aid appeals that are only partially met and fail to address root causes and allegations of sexual misconduct that are not investigated or prosecuted.'In my view, from my experience in the field, prosecutions around the world would mean more to the survivors of violence than any number of new Security Council resolutions.'

Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron Feud Made Up By Tabloid

Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron are NOT in on ongoing feud, despite a made-up tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct this claim. We’re told it’s “not true.”According to OK!, the two actresses have supposedly hated each other for years and now the situation is more hostile than ever. A so-called “source” tells the magazine that after Jolie passed on a role in a remake of Murder on the Orient Express, Theron allegedly “swooped in” to get it. The “insider” says, “Angie is starting to think Charlize is obsessed with her and she’s sick and tired of it. She feels Charlize goes out of her way to target roles she’s associated with.”The outlet’s questionable source further claims Theron isn’t concerned about Jolie’s supposed annoyance with her, adding, “She could care less what Angie has to say. In her view this is high school stupidness and Angie doesn’t deserve to be dignified.” Theron is in fact one of several actresses circling the role initially offered to Jolie, but it makes very little sense Jolie would be upset about Theron taking a part she didn’t want in the first place.Despite the illogicality of the tabloid’s claim, Gossip Cop still checked in with a source close to the situation, who exclusively assures us it’s simply “not true.” We’re also assured by sources close to both actresses that they’re not engaged in any sort of feud. This is simply a non-story concocted to arbitrarily rope two A-listers into a nonexistent fight. In fact, Gossip Cop already called out OK! back in April for falsely alleging Jolie and Theron were feuding. There was not truth to the claim then, and it’s no more accurate now.

She takes her duties as United Nations Special Envoy very seriously. So it was no surprise that Angelina Jolie arrived at Thursday's UN conference looking chic and sophisticated in a black outfit. The actress's appearance included a speech to the audience which included UK defence Secretary Michael Fallon and U.S. Defence Secretary Ash Carter. She looked in good spirits as she arrived, waving to onlookers and greeting UK Vice Chief of the Defence Staff General Sir Gordon Messenger.According to the UN Peacekeeping Twitter account, Angelina praised servicemen and women during her address.'I pay tribute to the men and women who serve... for their commitment and their sacrifices,' she said. Angelina has been involved with the United Nations since 2001, when she was named UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador - she was promoted to the rank of Special Envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee in 2012. Since then, she has completed more than 40 field missions, visiting countries including Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. She has also been a vocal campaigner on refugee rights, and against female genital mutilation and the use of rape as a weapon of war.Back in June, she made a star turn at the U.S. State Department when the actress shared the podium with Secretary of State John Kerry and urged finding a solution to the refugee crisis. In a speech, she said today's enormous refugee problem is a threat to worldwide peace and stability. 'We face a very clear choice: to continue as we are and see displacement and insecurity grow, or to come together with other nations and find a new approach, one that does not focus solely on aid and resettlement but on solution, stability, and returns,' she said.Away from the spotlight, the mother-of-six recently celebrated her second wedding anniversary with Brad Pitt. The couple have been together since 2004 but only married last year at their Château Miraval estate in France. Angelina and Brad marked the occasion with an intimate dinner at the Beverly Hills Hotel, according to reports.
