Angelina Jolie broke down in tears as she paid tribute to her late mother Marcheline Bertrand at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Wednesday night. The Hollywood star, 49, received the event's highest honour, the Maltin Modern Master Award, for her incredible accomplishments in the film industry. She took to the stage to accept the prestigious gong and became overwhelmed with emotion when discussing her beloved mother Marcheline during her speech.Angelina choked back tears as she praised Marcheline for always supporting her acting career after she gave up her own dreams of becoming a creative. She also moved the audience when she revealed Marcheline used to write letters to all of her characters, something she misses since her mother's death in 2007.'I'm very thankful to be a part of this community, many people go through life without a creative outlet,' Angelina shared.'I think of my mother, she had to give up her dreams of a creative life but she embraced that side of mine.'My mother would write letters to my characters - Dear Gia, Dear Lisa Rowe, Dear Lara Croft - and for the last 16 years, I haven't had those letters.'Angelina said she wonders what her mother would write to her latest character, real life opera singer Maria Callas, who she portrayed in the 2024 musical biopic, Maria.'I try to imagine sometimes what she would write, and she would probably have told Maria that she loved her because Maria had many things but she never had a mother's love,' she went on.'I would be absolutely nothing without mine. She passed away many years ago at this time of year, so it's always this weather that reminds me of her.'And that feeling and that sensibility that makes that actually hard for me is part of what is my work and what connects many artists to their work, and I know I'm not alone in this.'Marcheline died at the age of 56 on January 27, 2007, after an eight-year battle with ovarian and breast cancer. As well as Angelina, Marcheline also shared a son, James Haven, with her ex-husband, actor Jon Voight.Marcheline pursued her own career in the movie industry, auditioning tirelessly for theatre roles in Chicago and film gigs in Los Angeles before stepping back to raise her two children.

'But by the time my mom was 25, she was divorced with two kids and she decided she would focus her life solely on motherhood.'She loved being being a stay-at-home mom, but she really wanted me to be an actress so I don't remember making the choice to be an actress. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's son Pax, 21, involved in ANOTHER e-bike crash after riding around with no hands

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's son Pax, 21, has been involved in another e-bike crash after riding hands free. The budding photographer was riding his purple-and-black two-wheeler when he smashed into a white hatch-back car in Hollywood on Friday morning just before noon. The nepo child was alone and riding an e-bike with a motorcycle helmet on as he was dressed in a mauve hoodie and dark slacks with white sneakers. The e-bike looked just like the one he used when he crashed in July in a nearby area. The e-bike seemed to sustain damage like a wheel that would not roll straight. Pax struggled to move it properly as he closely inspected it. It is not known if the Maria photographer was physically hurt but he did not appear to be in pain as he walked around easily after the incident. After talking to the male driver and female passenger of the white dented car for a while, the two parties exchanged phone numbers and their separate ways. Before the accident took place, Pax was seen riding his e-bike without holding onto the handlebars. At one point he rested his gloved hands in his lap. Pax's July e-bike accident was pretty serious as it left him with cuts on his face. He suffered 'complex trauma' in the collision with a car on July 29 in Los Angeles and sported an arm cast soon after. Angelina has been by Pax's side at the hospital since he crashed into a car in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles, TMZ claimed. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. A source told the site that witnesses initially believed Pax had died in the crash as he laid lifeless on the ground. Pax regained consciousness after paramedics arrived on the scene. Page Six reported that this was not the first time the young man has been involved in incidents involving two and four wheeled vehicles. Two months before the July e-bike accident he wrecked his Tesla. Just before midnight on May 19, he reportedly drove his car into a box truck outside of RED Studios in Hollywood. The incident was uncovered via the studio's accident report and while Pax wasn't hurt in the crash, his car was seemingly 'totaled.'
Officers on the scene reported that Pax wasn't under the influence and no report was taken. 'His friends are concerned about him,' an insider told TMZ last year alleging, 'He's being reckless. They're worried. 'He has had a string of car crashes,' the source asserted. 'It's not great. Pax is a troubled kid, and Angelina is doing her best to help him.'In recent months, Pax has been spotted around Los Angeles riding on a Talaria Sting R MX4 electric bike, which costs around $3,000, though it's not known if that was the same bike he crashed. He is regularly seen not wearing a helmet when he is spotted out riding the bike in public. California state laws require all bike and motorcycle riders under 18 to wear helmets, but it's unclear if the type of bike Pax was riding at the time would have required him to wear a helmet. This comes after Jolie was reportedly been left 'devastated' after failing to secure an Oscar nomination for her role in the Maria biopic. The 49-year-old has won huge critical praise and a Golden Globe nod for portraying opera legend Maria Callas as she spent months learning to sing for the performance. But she was left out of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' 2025 best actress nominees announced on Thursday, despite huge expectations she would be included. An Oscars source told Page Six: 'Angelina will be devastated… look at all the press she did for the film – she wanted to get nominated. 'She did Jimmy Fallon, her first late-night show in over a decade. She even went to the Gotham Awards. She did all these magazine covers.' A second Hollywood awards insider suggested the snub could have wider implications. They added: 'It wasn't great for Angelina – or Netflix.' Another source tied the decision to leave Angelina out of the Oscar nominations to her public divorce from Pitt, which was finalized in December after years of legal disputes between the pair. The insider added to Page Six: 'This just shows that Hollywood is Team Brad. Nobody was going to go against Brad and give Angelina a vote … people just love Brad.' Maria, written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, focuses on Maria Callas' final days before her death in 1977. Angelina has spoken of making the singer's anguish 'personal to me' – with her sons Maddox, 23, and Pax, 21, working as production assistants on the project. The actress has reflected on the emotional toll of playing Maria Callas, telling the BBC: 'The character has a lot of pain and (my sons) have of course seen me go through a lot of things, but they hadn't experienced me expressing a lot of the pain that usually a parent hides from a child.

In August 2024 Shiloh legally dropped her father's surname.Shiloh, who hired and paid for her own lawyer when she filed to drop the Pitt name on her 18th birthday in May, filed to change her name from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie. There have been long custody battles which ended eventually in a victory for Pitt, who got 50-50 custody in 2021 only to have it overturned on appeal. He’s had a judge intervene to tell Angelina she mustn’t listen in on his mobile phone calls with the children. The judge has also ordered ‘reunification therapy’ for Pitt and the kids. The actor set up a skate park in his home for Shiloh, and more recently an art studio to reflect their common interest in art. He’s sent cars and security to ferry the children from her home to his whenever there is an allotted custody visit. Sadly, none of it has brought them closer. In fact son Pax said in an Instagram post in 2016 that all four of the youngest children – that’s including Shiloh – ‘tremble with fear in his presence.’ The two elder ones were at that point already declining point blank to see him.

He is no longer bound in any way to his marriage with Angelina. She has really put him through the ringer and he is just glad this portion is done.' rad - who makes $20 to $30 million per movie, has several multi-million business ventures and sponsorship deals, a vast real estate portfolio, and other lucrative investments - has a net worth of $400 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Angelina, 49, is still one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood, earning between $20 million and $35 million per film, Cosmopolitan reported. She also launched her own arts and fashion collective, Atelier Jolie, last year, but little is known about the company's finances. The former spouses signed a prenuptial agreement prior to their 2014 marriage that stated in the event of a divorce, they agreed to keep the individual assets that they each had prior to their marriage and split their joint capital. However, it appears that the divorce itself has proved to be quite lucrative for the Maria actress. Two years after their split, in 2018, Brad loaned Angelina $8 million to buy the Los Angeles mansion that she currently lives in. At the time he had paid over $1.3 million in bills for her and their six kids - Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16. A source has since told DailyMail.com: 'Jolie will be repaying the $8 million house loan by January 31.'
In 2021, Angelina sold a Winston Churchill painting for $11.5 million at an auction for Christie's. The painting, titled Tower of the Koutoubia Mosque, was a gift to Angelina by Brad and is believed to be Churchill's only World War II-era landscape. The bulk of her post-divorce earnings came in 2021, when she sold 50 percent of the Château Miraval estate to Tenute del Mondo, the wine division the Stoli Group, for $64 million.'They purchased Miraval with the intent of keeping it 100 percent in the family,' a source close to Brad said. 'They were going to hand this down for their children so that one day they could run the business, and it would provide all of them a lucrative and stable future.' Angelina's attorney told DailyMail.com of the divorce: 'More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. 'She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family. 'This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.' Brad and Angelina did purchase a home together in the New Orleans French quarter in 2007 for $3.5 million, but according to velvetropers.com sold it after their divorce for $4.9 million. The couple also reportedly shared a superyacht, which they purchased for $323 million in 2014, the Mirror reported at the time. The name of the vessel was not released publicly and it is unclear if the pair ever sold it. The former couple, best known as 'Brangelina', share three biological children - Shiloh, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne - as well as their adopted children Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, and Zahara, 19. Since their parents' bitter split, Zahara, Shiloh and Vivienne has all dropped Pitt from their last name. It has been reported that Maddox and Pax do not talk to their father - while it is believed that Knox and Vivienne still speak with the Fight Club star, though they have not been pictured with him in several years. Their bitter custody battle over their six children ended with Angelina retaining primary physical custody of their brood. Brad was granted visitation rights. The actor had originally sought a 50/50 arrangement relating to their six kids, but an insider told DailyMail.com in March this year that he was no longer contesting the matter.

Court documents filed in 2018 showed that Brad has paid Angelina at least $9 million in child support. The children have reportedly not had any contact with Brad's wider family either, including his parents - William, 84, and Jane Pitt, 83. 'Brad Pitt's parents have not been able to see their beloved grandchildren for around eight years amid the ongoing divorce and legal battle between Brad and Angelina,' an insider previously told DailyMail.com.The doting grandparents had been a very present fixture in the children's lives before Brad's marriage broke down, with the duo often pictured enjoying quality time with them. 'Prior to the separation, they were a part of the kids' lives and they all spent a lot of time together,' the source continued. 'It is just heartbreaking to see that this is no longer the case.' Brad and Angelina's fairytale marriage came to an end in 2016. It has since been alleged that the couple and their six children, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox, had taken a private plane days prior to her filing in which Pitt had become physically abusive. Jolie claimed in court filings that Pitt's 'history of physical abuse' started 'well before' the plane incident. The Maleficent actress also said her ex tried to force her to sign a $8.5 million NDA to cover up his 'years of abuse'. Pitt has always denied the claims of abuse and was cleared by law enforcement following an investigation. According to a source, 'Brad has come clean about what happened on the plane and he has worked hard on himself, getting sober and becoming a better man.' Brad has since got into a serious relationship with Ines de Ramon who he has been romantically linked to since 2022.
