Angelina Jolie opens up about her 'very natural' mom Marcheline Bertrand

Angelina Jolie's decision to partner with Guerlain was a personal one.The actress and philanthropist is the face of the brand's scent Mon Guerlain, which the company's website says she also inspired. Jolie revealed her late mother, The Man Who Loved Women actress Marcheline Bertrand, influenced her choice in an interview with Marie Claire. While it's rare for Jolie to speak of her mom who died in 2007 after battling ovarian cancer for nearly a decade, she opened up the magazine about her mother's fondness for Guerlain."It was a brand my mother loved, so I knew it from my childhood," Jolie shared. "It spoke to her, as it does to me, of beauty, history, and quality; one of the oldest perfume houses in the world, from France, a country I love and feel connected to." France, after all, hosted her surprise wedding to Brad Pitt in August 2014. USA TODAY confirmed that Jolie filed for divorce from the Allied actor in September of last year.Jolie said her mom, who was married to Ray Donovan actor Jon Voight, scarcely pampered herself."She was a very natural woman who never spoiled herself, never wore makeup, and wore modest jewelry," Jolie revealed, "but she always had a few special items for when she wanted to feel like a lady. One of those — and I remember it because it seemed so elegant — was her Guerlain powder. I think all women have those few special things that make them feel feminine."It seems Jolie's tie to Guerlain will also be a significant memory for her six children as she donated her salary from the campaign to charity."The Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation's work is inspired by our children and their connections to particular countries," explained Jolie. "We visit the projects together, and it is growing with them. We started 13 years ago in Cambodia, and have since moved to Ethiopia and Namibia, too. It is dedicated to education, health, and the environment. We are gradually expanding, but our focus is still very much on enabling local people to develop their own communities and future, as well as rights for women and children."

Angelina Jolie Opens Up About Her Late Mother Marcheline Bertrand: ‘She Never Spoiled Herself’

For Angelina Jolie, teaming up with Guerlain is about more than a partnership. The award-winning actress and humanitarian told Hello! that she decided to partner with the French perfume brand because it reminds her of her late mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who died of ovarian cancer at the age of 56 in January 2007.Stars Who Beat Cancer. The First They Killed My Father director, who is the face of the brand’s new international scent Mon Guerlain, told the publication that Guerlain is a brand her mother loved and that she knew from her childhood.“It spoke to her, as it does to me, of beauty, history and quality,” she explained. “It's the oldest perfume house in the world, from France, a country I love and feel connected to and spend time in. As I talked to Guerlain about the artistry they devote to the making of the perfume and the way they work in communities, sourcing their ingredients, the pieces came together and I felt we were a match."
Brangelina: The Way They Were. While recalling her late mother, who was also an actress and humanitarian, Jolie shared that Bertrand was a very "natural" woman.“She never spoiled herself, never wore make-up, and wore modest jewelery, but she always had a few special items for when she wanted to feel like a lady,” she recalled. “One of those special items – and I remember it because it seemed so elegant – was her Guerlain powder (Ladies in All Climates). I think it speaks of all women having those few special things that make them feel feminine. And so when I was a little girl, I would associate Guerlain with that."For Jolie, who is the mom of six kids with estranged husband Brad Pitt, her go-to product is under eye concealer, she told Hello!, while also admitting that her approach towards aging is to appreciate life. "Maybe because my last decade has included many health scares and a focus on raising children, I am simply happy to be healthy, and above all that the children are healthy,” Jolie, who underwent a double mastectomy and later had her ovaries removed in March 2015, said. “There is nothing else to fear. It makes life clear.”

Angelina Jolie ‘dismisses brother from head nanny role’

Angelina Jolie's brother James Haven has reportedly been let go by sister from his job as nanny to her brood. The 43-year-old former actor was allegedly employed by the Mr. & Mrs. Smith star to supervise the six nannies she employs - one for each child - in the wake of her split from former husband Brad Pitt. However, he was noticeably absent from the actress' entourage on a recent visit to London.Last September (16) DailyMail.com reported that Angelina had been leaving her children in the care of brother James and that he had accompanied her and the children to Cambodia where she was shooting a movie as well previously being spotted dashing through airports with the family on their travels. However, according to editors at Grazia, Angelina has "quietly dismissed" James from his role as head nanny, after she realised the job was taking a heavy toll on him. The former actor and his sister have always been extremely close. He famously came to the world's attention back in 2000 when Angelina and he kissed on the mouth at the Oscars where she won a Supporting Actress Academy Award for Girl, Interrupted."Things haven't been easy with Brad and Angelina's divorce, and James has done more than his fair share helping out while the family goes through a major upheaval," a source close to the star told Grazia. "But he's done. he's loved spending so much time with his nieces and nephews, but it's hard work and he's absolutely shattered.James was said to have overall responsibility for running the team of nannies responsible for the former couple's children; Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox, but with such a large brood, the role soon spilled over into managing the household too."It was his job to be there if any of the kids woke up during the night and to deal with the nannies if they had any issues. He was virtually running the household and it became very draining," the source added. "She was worried about how exhausted he looked and realised he needed a break. Brad is coming back into the kids' lives, so things have calmed down a little. She's grateful that James was there, but knows she can't rely on him every step of the way."The news comes as Angelina visited London last week (14Mar17) to deliver a lecture at the London School of Economics Centre for Women, Peace & Security about how rape is used as a tool of war.“I hope I do well,” she told reporters ahead of the lecture. “This is very important to me.”

Angelina Jolie adopted her first son, Maddox, with 'fake' details to speed up the court process claims a Cambodian aid worker

The documentation Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie used to adopt her eldest son contained false information, a Cambodian aid worker has claimed. Mounh Sarath, 51, wrote that he was the father of Maddox Jolie-Pitt on the boy's adoption papers in order to speed up the process of passing him into Jolie's care in 2003.He also claims he provided a local address on the papers and still has power of attorney over the 15-year-old, who Jolie took back to the United States. He said: 'In court documents, Maddox is still my son. She never cleared this up.'She had to change his name, so the only way was for me to do it. I said he's my son.Sarath added that he has now fallen out with the 41-year-old star.He told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: 'I would be happy if Cambodia didn't see her again.' He showed The Sun on Sunday the document filed with a court in Battambong province in August 2003 which confirms the court considered him the father.Despite the claims there is no implication that Jolie nor her then husband, Billy Bob Thornton, who adopted Maddox too, knew that Sarath did this. At the time of Maddox's adoption, the US had imposed tougher restrictions on adopting children from Cambodia due to trafficking fears. The claim from Sarath is the latest controversy regarding the adoption of Maddox. Adoption agent Lauryn Galindo was jailed for falsifying names, birth dates and places of birth of Cambodian children she helped to place with US families soon after Jolie and Billy Bob took full custody of Maddox. However at the time Jolie insisted she went to 'great lengths to ensure Maddox did not have a living birth-mother in Cambodia' and that she would 'never rob a mother of her child.' The actress recently directed First They Killed My Father, a movie about the 1975 to 1979 genocide of 1.7 million Cambodians during communist dictator Pol Pot's regime. Most died from either starvation, disease or were killed in mass executions, and Jolie admitted making the film had made her better understand her son's country of birth. She said: 'This country means a great deal to me, this country has been through so much. This war affected every single individual here, and I wanted to understand myself.'I don't know much of Maddox's birth parents, but I believe they would have gone through this war.' Jolie, who was given Cambodian citizenship in 2005, has six children with ex-husband Brad Pitt including three international adoptees.Along with Maddox they adopted Pax Thien from Vietman, Zahara from Ethiopia. Shiloh who originally hails from Namibia was their fist biological child along with eight-year old twins Knox and Vivienne.

Touchdown! Angelina Jolie and her six children arrive back in Los Angeles after their European humanitarian tour

She may be a celebrity and someone who has the ear of world leaders but to her larger than average brood she is just mom.Angelina and her six children touched down in Los Angeles, California, from London on Friday night. The 41-year-old was escorted through arrivals by her oldest daughter Zahara as Vivienne and Know trotted along beside her while Maddox and Pax happily brought up the rear.Shiloh was obviously tired from the long trip with the 10-year-old not seeming as bubbly as the rest of the children, hiding under a big hooded sweatshop. The rest near skipped to their waiting car, with Angelina struggling to keep up at one point. The children are frequent flyers so Knox - who looks more and more like his father Brad Pitt everyday - was prepared for the flight bringing a big box of activities for everyone to do.The eight-year-old seems particularly into loom bands which you can make friendship bracelets from. His twin sister carried two stuffed animals, who she hugged tight as they made their way through the airport. For their flight, Angelina wore a white over-the-knee skirt with an off-white camisole. As Los Angeles is still a little chilly at night, Angelina wore a long trench-like cardigan over the top.The actress further accessorized the look the knee high leather boots and kept sunglasses over her eyes.Angelina had taken the children to Europe as she was tasked with speaking at the UNs annual lecture of the Sergio Vieira de Mello Foundation. At the lecture the Girl Interrupted star explained: 'We need to stand true to the ideals of the UN...we are the UN.'She added: 'There is no shortcut to peace and security... I am a proud American and I am an internationalist.'Prior to flying out of London, Angelina also sat down with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby. The pair discussed sexual violence in conflict, the refugee crisis and South Sudan. On the home front Angelina and her estranged husband Brad have appeared to bury the hatchet following their split in September. The pair had been together for 12 years and married for two.Angelina has spoken of how 'wonderful' actor Brad is as a father to their six children.
