Aly Raisman Says Meeting Angelina Jolie Was 'Light Moment' on Difficult Day of Senate Testimony

The Olympic gold medalist tells PEOPLE (The TV Show!) that she hopes to team up with the Academy Award-winning actress to combat violence against women.Aly Raisman says it was "incredible" having Angelia Jolie in attendance at the U.S. Senate hearing regarding the FBI's handling of the Larry Nassar investigation.In an interview with Kay Adams, host of PEOPLE (The TV Show!), the Olympic gold medalist, 27, confesses to being a tad starstruck when she first learned that the Academy Award winner, 46, wanted to meet her and the other Team USA gymnasts that testified on Sept. 17."I was like, 'What is my life that Angelina Jolie is watching our testimony and wants to meet us?' " recalls Raisman, whose Lifetime special From Darkness to Light premieres Friday. "In a very intense day, it was a nice light moment." Raisman and fellow gymnasts McKayla Maroney, Simone Biles, Maggie Nichols, Kaylee Lorincz, and Jessica Howard shared their stories at last Friday's hearing. Little did they know, however, that Jolie had been watching.Raisman tells PEOPLE (The TV Show!) that the group had just finished testifying when someone pulled her mother Lynn Raisman aside to tell her that Jolie had viewed their testimony and was interested in meeting the group: "We obviously said yes."After meeting, the group posed for a photo. Jolie shared the image on her Instagram page alongside an encouraging message for the girls."I was honored to meet with some of the brave US gymnasts who appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday," the actress wrote. "I'm in awe of their courage and commitment to preventing future failures to investigate abuse." "As Aly Raisman said in her testimony, 'Over 100 victims could have been spared the abuse. All we needed was one adult to do the right thing.' Sending support and respect to them, and to all who are reliving this trauma so that system reforms can occur," she added.Raisman tells PEOPLE (The TV Show!) that she feels "very validated" and "very supported" in wake of her testimony. She hopes that those subjected to Nassar's abuse will get some answers."I think it's going to take some time, but I felt things were a little bit different in a positive way last week. So hopefully we're going in the right direction." In the meantime, Raisman is looking forward to teaming up with Jolie in an effort to combat violence against women of all kinds. "And hopefully we can use both of our platforms to work together, to fight, to end abuse and end violence for women," she says.Aly Raisman: Darkness to Light premieres Friday at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime.

'I did all these junkets with film stars. So every Thursday I would come to London and then I would do Thursday and Friday with them and stay for the weekend. I must have been about 25 by this point...'One day I was in Topshop on Oxford Street and the production company who made the show called the flat were we lived essentially and said we need to speak to Alex. Angelina Jolie is available for an interview and we need her to come and do it now.'And he said, 'oh Alex is ill and she actually in Wales, but I could come'. So off he went, I'm still in Topshop, unbeknown to me, buying cheap jeans and shoes.'And so I got back to the flat and was like, where is he? Hours went past, nobody answering their phones and in the end thought, right I'm going to drive back to Cardiff, because I don't know where you are, you've probably gone to the pub.'And then the production company called, and they were like, we've got bit of a situation. Tomorrow morning your boyfriend is going to the premiere with Angelina Jolie and it it would be really funny if you came on the line, live on the show and surprise him and said that you know exactly what he's been up to.'So again, I said yes, so on live telly I'm like, you lied to me, where have you been? So yeah, not surprisingly, we split up live on telly!' Despite the humorous anecdote, Alex admits that it wasn't a happy time for her. She adds: 'It was a really dark time for about six months and even though I was still very happily working in Wales, I just wasn't myself, my mum was really worried, my fiends were really worried and at that point I thought, nobody is going to me like that again...'I've had really nice boyfriends and a really nice husband, but I'm grateful because I needed that experience and I thought when I got myself together, I'm going to have a successful career, I'm going to work really hard and I think it was a real turning point for me.'I stopped messing about and i focused and from that point forward, was a real turning point forward when real good stuff started happening.'It was mad and I can honestly can laugh about it now and I mean there's a lot to laugh about, but at the same time, I'm super grateful to him because that experience taught me so much. It taught me about how fickle our industry is, how tough you needed to be.'Because I was just a little Welshy, who was like, nobody would do a bad thing on purpose, then was like oh, they actually do. But it taught me a lot about being in love with the wrong person and about how it can really damage you and damage your confidence.'And I built myself back up and I thought, I'm going to be a grown up from now on, I'm going to do things properly, I'm going to work at my career and from then on, it started feeling a lot more stable...' Alex also discusses her excitement over having a baby girl, and how hating her temp job helped her get the career she has now.

The article claimed Jolie and Harington were spending too much time on the road to promote their new film, and the whole ordeal was making Leslie uncomfortable. Not because Leslie didn’t trust Harrington, but rather because Jolie concerned her. The article spoke at length about Jolie’s reputation as a man-eater, drawing back on the old story of Jolie stealing Brad Pitt away from Jennifer Aniston. According to the piece, now that she and Pitt were separated, she was looking to wreck a new marriage. This time, she had set her sights on Harrington.

Filming wrapped up a year ago, and there have been no reports connecting Jolie or Harrington since.Furthermore, Harrington and Leslie have not been having problems. On the contrary, Leslie recently gave birth to a baby boy, and the Game of Thrones alums seem happy as ever. It seems this is another of the tabloids’ attempts to assassinate Jolie’s character and is not based in fact at all.

Clearly, the tabloids get tired of the facts when reporting on Jolie, and like to spice things up with lies.
