Carol Burnett is eager to see Angelina Jolie portray her in a potential biopic. The legendary comedian, 90 — whose eponymous variety show collected 25 Emmys from 1967 to 1978 — envisions a film about her illustrious life starring the one and only Oscar-winning beauty. During a recent interview with E! News, Burnett enthusiastically affirmed her choice of the 48-year-old actress, exclaiming, 'I think she’s perfect.' Her Palm Royale costar Kristen Wiig chimed in with a resounding, 'Yes.'Burnett also revealed that she agreed to her part in the AppleTV+ series Palm Royale without reviewing the script, basing her decision solely on the esteemed cast involved. Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, and Leslie Bibb join Burnett and Wiig in the period comedy about an 'ambitious woman scheming to secure her seat at America's most exclusive table: Palm Beach high society circa 1969,' per the show's website. Burnett remarked, 'When they called me about doing it, I didn't even have to read a script. I said, "I'm in,’"because of who I would be working with, and that was it. 'And then I read the script and that was the icing on the cake.'Looking ahead to her 91st birthday on April 26th, Burnett expressed her wish for a second season of the series to keep her occupied. She stated, 'Well, I hope there's a second season, you know, then that'll keep me working, which I like. Yes, as long as I have fun, and that's what I want. 'I always approach it as something new that I've never done before, so I'm just happy to be working and that I've got all my parts. I have my hips and my knees — and I think my brain — so as long as I can keep that up and work, then I want to work.'Burnett changed the landscape of television by becoming the first female to lead a comedy variety show. After the debut of The Carol Burnett Show in 1967, Carol’s eponymous program collected 25 Emmys over its 11-year run. It launched the careers of her hand-picked castmates Vicki Lawrence, Tim Conway, and Harvey Korman. Burnett enjoyed an illustrious career as well, having won five Golden Globe Awards, six Emmy Awards, a Special Tony Award and a Grammy.Jolie, meanwhile, rose to fame with her role in Girl, Interrupted (1999), which earned her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Her career spans a range of roles in notable films such as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005), and Changeling (2008), showcasing her versatility as an actress.

Angelina Jolie makes her fashion design debut with Suleika Jaouad Batiste's upcycled silk Oscars gown

Angelina Jolie officially made her fashion design debut by creating Suleika Jaouad Batiste's silver-pleated gown at the 96th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday. 'The dress was designed by the one and only Angelina Jolie,' the 35-year-old best-selling author announced to CTV's Etalk on the red carpet. '[It was] her first time designing a dress for the red carpet, and she invited the amazing artist Chaz Guest to paint a symphony on the back of it.' Indeed, Chaz Guest admitted he 'was nervous' to paint a portrait of five-time Grammy winner Jon Batiste conducting his first symphony because he's used to painting on canvases not 100% upcycled silk. 'I didn't want to mess up! But I put on Jon's music, and didn't think, and went with the full inspiration and moved as fast as I could,' the 62-year-old artist told Vogue on Sunday.'I used a technique of painting that is quite known in Japan: It's called sumi-e, and it's an ancient way of drawing, with sumi ink.' The 48-year-old Atelier Jolie founder - who also selected Suleika's Neil Lane jewelry - added: 'I wanted a look inspired by Suleika's creativity and her love. She is a painter, and so it felt right to have her gown used as a canvas.' Angelina has a 'deep admiration' for Batiste after watching her battle with acute myeloid leukemia, which returned after a decade in remission, in Matthew Heineman's critically-acclaimed Netflix documentary American Symphony. 'American Symphony shows one of the great artist pairings and love stories of our time,' Jolie gushed. 'We can all learn from them about how to approach love, art, and the challenges life brings. They say in the film, "freedom and family." There really isn't anything more important.'
Due to the risk of exposure, the New York Times columnist - who underwent a bone marrow transplant - had to spend many weeks apart from her talented 37-year-old husband, whom she originally met as a teenager at band camp. 'Lullabies became his way of enveloping me with care, love, and presence from a distance,' Suleika explained. 'To see that lullaby become a full-fledged song [titled It Never Went Away], become a part of a film, and then go on to be nominated at the Oscars, shows how much things can change in two years.' The We Dare to Dream producer added: '[She's a] brilliant creative force who inspires everyone who knows her. I would have dressed her for anything she needed. It should never be about the dress, but how anything worn feels like an extension of the person.' It's been nearly a year since Angelina founded her fashion house with a focus on sustainability and upcycling. Unfortunately for the married couple of two years, Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell's Barbie track What Was I Made For? wound up winning Oscar gold for best original song. The Color Purple actor - who previously won the Oscar in 2020 for scoring Soul - is next scheduled to perform a sold-out concert this Tuesday at Canada's Massey Hall in Toronto. Last December, Jolie confirmed to The Wall Street Journal that she'll soon reprise her Maleficent role for a third Disney film. Last October, the former Hollywood wild child filmed her role as the legendary opera singer Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín's seventies-set biopic Maria, which will mark her first acting role since Chloé Zhao's dismally-reviewed 2021 MCU flick Eternals. It's been a year since Angelina was attached to produce and star opposite Halle Berry in Roseanne Liang's action thriller Maude v Maude for Warner Bros., but it's unclear what the status is at this point. It's also unclear when audiences will see Jolie's fifth feature directorial effort Without Blood starring Salma Hayek and Demián Bichir, which is a big-screen adaptation of the 2002 Alessandro Baricco novel. On the personal front, the humanitarian is mother to six children - son Maddox, 22; son Pax, 20; daughter Zahara, 19; daughter Shiloh, 17; and fraternal twins Vivienne and Knox, 15 - from her two-year marriage to ex-husband #3 Brad Pitt, which ended in 2016.

This Angelina Jolie lookalike might be the best celebrity doppelgänger of all time

We bet even Angie herself is confused when she looks at this TikToker. We're calling it: this Angelina Jolie lookalike is very possibly the most convincing we've seen yet.She may be, hands down, one of the most beautiful famous people going, but now there are two of her. This information comes courtesy of Russian TikTok user Tatyana Duke aka the doppelgänger herself. Fun fact, by the way – doppelgänger it's a German word which means, literally, “double go-er”. Every day's a school day, kids…Anyway – Tatyana (who has 315k followers on the social video sharing platform) is racking up the likes, 23.2k at time of writing, for a clip of herself backing slowly into a blown-up poster image of Angelina Jolie. She's made up to resemble the 46-year-old actor, with subtle cat-eye eyeliner, nude lipgloss and luminous foundation, with brushed back, tousled raven hair – and she wears a black T-shirt, as does Jolie in the poster in question. As she moves backwards and the poster in the background comes into focus, the resemblance between the two women is pretty breathtaking. To drive home the point, the whole thing is done to the sound effect of Apple Pay, ie the distinctive “da-ding” sound that goes off when your iPhone recognises you with Face ID and unlocks the pay functionality. Honestly, we wouldn't be surprised if this woman's face could unlock Angelina's iPhone – they look so alike. This clip isn't the first time she's styled herself a la Angie; her TikTok profile picture is a very Maleficent-esque image of herself wearing devil horns, posing just like Jolie's image in the film poster. In the Disney dark fantasy film franchise, Jolie plays a once-benevolent fairy who turns vengeful after being scorned by her human lover who abandons her in favour of his ambitions to be king.Tatyana is rocking the trademark Maleficent look – horns, blood-red lips, long black velvet robe – in many of her videos. Meanwhile, she's posted other videos of herself doing cosplay in various looks from Jolie's other major role: a seriously convincing all-black Lara Croft (from the Tomb Raider franchise) costume – complete with long French braid and gun belt. Which all kind of makes sense when you translate her bio from Russian to English: it reads “Russian Angelina Jolie. Maleficent and Lara Croft cosplay.” Given her TikTok content, being a professional doppelganger legitimately looks like a fun time: she's posted videos of herself hanging out with an eclectic range of other lookalikes (BoJack Horseman, Spiderman, Cruella De Vil, to name but a few…) at what look like cosplay conferences. She also mixes things up from her Maleficent/Lara Croft looks: some more recent videos show her rocking a blonde wig, headdress and long, flowing white skirt, taking on Jolie's look from 2018 Marvel film Eternals, where the actor played Thena, an elite Eternal warrior.Of course, Jolie has already grown her own doppelganger – her 15-year-old daughter with ex-husband Brad Pitt, Shiloh, looks just like her, with the resemblance growing ever more uncanny as the years go by. Genetics, eh! We've seen a lot of celebrity lookalikes recently, thanks to a TikTok trend bringing them to the forefront: including Jennifer Aniston's lookalike, Amanda Seyfried's doppelgänger and a Kylie Jenner lookalike. The trend has stepped up for 2022: there was faux Margot Robbie just a few days ago, aka Danish computer science student Emma Sofija – who used the popular celebrity twin filter to showcase just how much she looks like the Suicide Squad actor. Last month, we also had the spit image of Phoebe Dynevor – aka TikTok user, @ohlookitsbrooke, who shared a video where she spoke about how much she looked like the Bridgerton star.

I’ve featured the work of Alyson Tabbitha a bunch of times here on Kotaku, because she’s just the best. Her make-up work is transformative, and in the past she has shape-shifted into everyone from Wonder Woman to Jack Sparrow to Leeloo Dallas. Her latest effort is Angelina Jolie’s Thena, from Marvel’s Eternals. Note that this isn’t full cosplay; this is “just” a make-up test, with the full suit for a full-body cosplay shoot a work in progress. But still, holy shit! Every time I think it’s funny and entirely implausible that Agent 47 can just walk into a bathroom, change his outfit and have the whole world think he’s a new man, I should remember that some people genuinely have this power, even if it takes a little longer to apply the finishing touches than Hitman might have us believe. You can see more of Alyson’s cosplay work at her Facebook page, and for a detailed rundown of just how she works her make-up magic, here’s a recent video showing how she cosplayed as Emma Stone’s Cruella.

Women should be aware of the 'Jolie effect' leading to too many mastectomies, scientists warn

Women should be aware of unnecessary mastectomies due to the 'Jolie effect', according to experts. Females with mutations in the BRCA1 gene, such as Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie, and the related BRCA2 gene, are at greater risk of breast cancer. But a study has now found their risk is 76 per cent higher if they also have a mother or sister with breast cancer.Experts are concerned women may not realise their risk of breast cancer is far higher if they have a family history, like Ms Jolie, who had a mastectomy to reduce her risk of developing cancer. Those without a family history may end up having surgery to protect against cancer, making the important decision without realising they are far less likely to get it. The evidence comes from a study of 450,000 British people, aged 40 to 70, who were given genetic tests as part of the UK Biobank health study. These included 230 with a mutation in the BRCA1 gene, of whom 78 also had a mother or sister who had breast cancer. When these people were tracked up until the age of 60, almost 45 per cent with the genetic mutation and a family history developed breast cancer. But only 23 per cent of women with the mutation got breast cancer before the age of 60 if they did not also have a close family history of it. The researchers say women should pay close attention to the figures, as the rise of genetic testing kits taken at home means many can now find out they have a mutation in one of the BRCA genes. Experts are concerned about the decisions that could be made by these women, who would not have been eligible for a genetic test through the NHS unless they had breast or ovarian cancer, or a family member with either of these cancers and a known BRCA mutation. Dr Leigh Jackson, who led the study from the University of Exeter, said more women were choosing breast cancer surgery, particularly since Angelina Jolie, 48, shared her experience. But he added: 'Being told you are at high genetic risk of disease can really influence levels of fear of a particular condition and the resulting action you may take. 'We'd urge that anyone communicating cancer risk does so based on a detailed family history, not just genetics alone.' The study, published in the Lancet journal eClinical Medicine, said estimates of breast cancer risk from genetic mutations like BRCA1 and BRCA2 may be misleadingly high for people without a family history of the disease. That is because people with a family history probably have a higher risk from unknown mutations in genes besides the BRCA genes.

Lucy: Scarlett Johansson chosen after Angelina Jolie’s rejection

Scarlett Johansson was hired to star in Lucy following Angelina Jolie and Milla Jovovich’s rejections; Luc Besson, however, has always denied this narrative.Scarlett Johansson it wouldn’t have been Luc Besson’s first choice to play hers Lucy. Apparently, in fact, the director would have liked to work with in the first place Angelina Jolie or Milla Jovovich. Yet, to have disproved this narrative was the author of The Fifth Element himself.Luc Besson, in fact, denied Angelina Jolie’s interest in Lucy and underlined the empathy that Scarlett Johansson immediately felt towards her film. This reaction convinced the French director to offer the role to the protagonist of Black Widow. Besson also added that he had interviewed very few actresses before choosing the lead of Lucy – and Angelina Jolie would not be one of them.Furthermore, as reported by Box Office Mojo and TheWrap, Lucy was seen above all by a female audience, whose percentage fluctuates between 50 and 60% of all spectators who went to the theater. In this regard, Nikki Rocco, Universal Studios president of home distribution, said: “Having a female lead on an original property made absolutely a difference. Scarlett is a star and her presence in the film made him that much more attractive to women.”.Michael Bodey of The Australian, on the other hand, said the women who made up half the audience are “a seemingly new precedent for an action movie” and that, due to her box office performance, Lucy is Besson’s film that “risks having the greatest cultural impact”, even more than The Fifth Element and Leon.
