All she can see, in every direction, is water. It’s Oct. 16, 2013, the first day of filming on the WWII drama Unbroken, and a barge has taken Angelina Jolie, her crew, and an enormous crane camera onto the open Pacific off the coast of Queensland, Australia. As she stands on the ship, silhouetted by bright blue sky and deep blue sea, actors Jack O’Connell, Domhnall Gleeson, and Finn Wittrock float nearby in a small yellow raft. They are skinny and weak and starving, having subsisted on just 500 calories a day for two months. Suddenly, the wind picks up, stirring salt spray and waves. The crew on the barge begins to slip and fall. Jolie can barely hear O’Connell, her young star, deliver his lines, and for a moment she can’t even see him. As the camera zooms in for a close-up, he bobs helplessly in and out of frame.“If you saw that first shot and my reaction to it, you’d be absolutely sure that this was going to be one of the great disasters of filmmaking history,” Jolie says today with a smile, sitting on a sofa at Milk Studios in Los Angeles. “The only thing you could do was laugh at how insane this was all going to be. And then you just had to take a deep breath and figure out what to do next.”
Ah, the eternal unanswerable question: What will Angelina Jolie do next? In a life that has spanned her transformation from Gia Carangi to Evelyn Salt, from femme fatale to media-sainted ambassador, from wild child to mother of six, she has been everything except one thing: predictable. Now, on the heels of the highest-grossing film of her career, Maleficent, Jolie, 39, is shifting her focus from movie star to director. Unbroken, her $65 million period epic, is her most ambitious undertaking yet. “I didn’t know what I was up against when I was first getting into it,” Jolie says. “I had never done anything like it. I was up for the challenge, but I had so much to learn.” For more on Unbroken, including how Jolie cast the young British actor Jack O’Connell, pick up the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly on stands this Tuesday..

Angelina Jolie looks stunning with Jack O’Connell on the brand new cover of DuJour Magazine‘s winter issue. Here’s what the 39-year-old actress and director had to share with the mag:
On giving up acting: “I’ve never been comfortable as an actor; I’ve never loved being in front of the camera. I didn’t ever think I could direct, but I hope I’m able to have a career at it because I’m much happier.”
On making By The Sea with husband Brad Pitt: “Compared to Unbroken, this film is a walk in the park. The tricky thing is directing myself and directing Brad. It’s hard, dramatic material, and we’re balancing. It’s a heavy film, and it’s not easy for us. But even as you struggle through it, you’re in the trenches together and you don’t expect it to be easy. We’re challenging each other and that’s a really good thing.”
On Unbroken and her sons: “In the back of my mind, I wanted to make a film that would help my boys become better men. They know Louie’s story, so I’m able to say to them that it’s not bad to be full of fire—it’s what you choose to do with that fire.”

They have been hard at work on the set of their upcoming film, By The Sea.And Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s working honeymoon seemed to be going well when they filmed scenes in Malta over the weekend. The newlywed couple were seen filming scenes in a classic convertible in Gozo with Brad behind the wheel as Angelina got cosy in the passenger seat. While he drove the car along the island, they were joined by a film crew who towed the car away once the scene was completed.Angelina sports a blonde wig in the film while Brad has been rocking a moustache.Brad was then seen getting items out of another vehicle as the pair enjoyed a break during the day.The film, which is written and directed by Angelina, is the couple's first project together since Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2005 - the film which saw them falling in love both on and off screen. By The Sea documents the challenge a long time married couple face as they go on vacation throughout Europe in the 1970s.It sees 'Vanessa, a former dancer, and her husband Roland, an American writer, travel the country together,’ according to IMDB.‘They seem to be growing apart, but when they linger in one quiet, seaside town they begin to draw close to some of its more vibrant inhabitants, such as a local bar/café-keeper and a hotel owner,' the description added.Speaking to USA Today, Brad recently said, 'Yeah, it was our choice. It's been fun. It's been challenging but really fun.'Speaking about the project to US TV show Extra, Angelina said of the project, 'It's the kind of movie we love but aren't often cast in.‘It's a very experimental, independent-type film where we get to be actors together and be really raw, open, try things.'
Meanwhile, Pitt and Jolie tied the knot in August on the urging of their children, Maddox, 13, Pax, 10, Zahara, nine, Shiloh, eight, and six-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. All six children were very much a part of the nuptials that took place at Chateau Miraval in the South of France on August 23.Brad Pitt recently described his wedding as 'amazing'.The Fury star admits their relationship feels even more secure since they tied the knot.Asked about their intimate nuptials, the 50-year-old star told Good Morning America, on Friday: 'It was an amazing day and I think there's an added security that comes with it.' espite being very happy in his personal life, the heartthrob admits he was left feeling exhausted and traumatised for some time after filming his new World War II drama. He told E! News: 'I've always heard these stories of actors having a hard time shaking a role. It was true this time.'We were really embedded with this one. I think the biggest challenge was when the film starts...they're three-and-a-half years into the war.'He added: 'They've been through Africa, they've been through France, they've been through Belgium, now they're deep into Germany, and to feel that exhaustion, the years of just psychic trauma...I think we got that [feeling, too].'
