The 39-year-old actress was recently bestowed with an honourary damehood by Britain's Queen Elizabeth in her Birthday Honours, but as she is an American she cannot officially use the title.Angelina Jolie is in talks to become a citizen of Namibia so she can become a dame. However, the 'Maleficent' star has now been advised she could refer to herself as Dame Angelina Jolie by becoming a citizen of Namibia, which is part of the Commonwealth and she feels using the title would help with her charity work.A source told The Sun newspaper: "Angelina was blown away when she was made a dame. She thinks it will add gravitas to her in her humanitarian work."Gradually she will focus less on acting and more on world issues and this helps to detract from her Hollywood history."Angelina has close ties to the African country as it is where she gave birth to eight-year-old daughter Shiloh - her first biological child with fiance Brad Pitt - in 2006. The youngster is considered a Namibian citizen and has a passport issued by the country. The Namibian Embassy says it would be happy to consider the A-list actress for citizenship.A representative said: "We would welcome Angelina Jolie to make an application for citizenship, just like anyone else."Angelina - who also raises adopted kids Maddox, 12, Pax, 10, and Zahara, nine, and biological twins Knox and Vivienne, five, with Brad - has become a lauded public figure for her humanitarian efforts in ending sexual violence in conflict zones through the United Nations (UN).

A-lister Angelina Jolie was prevented from entering Sudan by via authorities in the Arab republic, as she attempted to enter to attend a civil society event in the country’s capital of Khartoum. The Tomb Raider star‘s absence was confirmed Friday by Peter Tibber of the British embassy in Sudan, after she was slated to appear at a summit there, according to local media.Jolie, a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations, did lend her presence at the event in a video, where she criticized Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and his administration for their death sentence of Meriam Yahya Ibrahim, a Christian woman who would not renounce her religion, and was subsequently convicted of apostasy, with the grave implications.
“Khartoum should respect the fundamental right to freedom of religion, and to repeal its laws that ban people from converting their faith, as they are inconsistent with its 2005 Interim Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights,” Jolie said in the clip. The outspoken actress also took exception with what she said was a disproportionate amount of wealth and power among Sudan’s political elites.“They steal wealth, then fund the Janjaweed, the internal security organs, and the Sudanese Air Force, and ensure that those brutal instruments of control are held by a small circle of ruling party officials,” the Maleficent star said in the taped clip.Earlier in the week, Jolie lent her presence to a conference in London dedicated to the prevention of wartime rape. Jolie is no stranger to international political activism, also having devoted years to causes in Sudanese areas such as Darfur and South Kordofan.

... after being made an honorary Dame by the Queen. She is the Queen of Tinsletown and has just been made an honorary dame. But Angelina Jolie kept a low-key look for her first outing after the news as she was spotted arriving at Heathrow airport with Brad Pitt and several of their children. The 39-year-old actress was kitted out in an all-black ensemble as she made her would out of the car and carried some of her belongings into the London airport on Saturday morning. The Maleficent star wore a black waterfall cardigan over black trousers and she added height with black heels. She accessorised with a large black handbag while her fiance Brad was seen in a beige ensemble. The couple seemed to be joined by their eldest son, Maddox, who wore a backwards baseball cap by urban brand, The Hundreds. It is thought that the Foreign Secretary William Hague nominated Angelina to receive the surprise accolade as part of the Queen’s birthday honours. The suggestion is plausible as the pair have been working closely together at a summit on rape in London over the past week. But eyebrows were raised at the headline-grabbing damehood, which seals two years of growing friendship between the A-list actress and Mr Hague. As an American citizen, it is highly unusual that Miss Jolie has received an honour from Britain.Foreigners are occasionally awarded them – there was an honorary knighthood for Bob Geldof, who is Irish, after Live Aid.The honour to Miss Jolie, a UN Special Envoy, recognises her ‘extraordinary’ work to stamp out rape as a weapon in war zones, culminating in a landmark international summit in London to tackle the menace.Mr Hague said she thoroughly deserved the award because she had ‘made a real difference and achieved lasting results’, referring to the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative the pair launched in 2012.Miss Jolie said: ‘To receive an honour related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to.’She becomes an honorary Dame Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George. It is awarded to those who ‘render extraordinary or important non-military service in a foreign country’. It can also be conferred for important or loyal service in relation to foreign and Commonwealth affairs.
