She may have been celebrating her latest portrayal of Cinderella's iconic Disney baddie, but Angelina Jolie's greatest role is as a doting mother. The 44-year-old actress looked every bit the proud mother as she was joined by nearly all of her children at the Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil premiere in Los Angeles on Monday night. Her eldest son Maddox, 18, was the only one not in attendance as she recently sent him off to college in South Korea. The premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood was still a family affair as Jolie was flanked by five of her children. She was joined by Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and 11-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, whom she shares with ex-husband Brad Pitt.At the premiere, Angelina revealed she's had times where she has felt not 'free' and not "safe" over the past four years. The screen star went through a divorce and custody battle with ex Brad, which was finalised this year, and has admitted that she had kept those thoughts of not feeling 'free of harm' and 'cornered hidden' from the public. Speaking about her character Maleficent, she told Daily Pop on E!: 'I think Maleficent is wild, I think there is that thing in all of us that is just not safe and not fine, that wants to just have fun and be our best self."And speaking about herself, she added: 'There have been times in my life where I have felt - and maybe I've hidden them well from the public - where I have not felt free, I have not felt safe, I have not felt like free of harm. I have felt small. I have felt cornered.'And it has taken a lot to find that again, probably more of that today than I was in the last four years.' Elsewhere at the event, Angelina's co-star Michelle Pfeiffer admitted she always fears getting fired from movie roles because she never had 'formal training'. The actress suffers from imposter syndrome as she never studied acting and would perform 'purely' on her 'instincts' and she confessed that she never felt like she was 'really enough' for the parts she has landed over the past four decades, but in hindsight she feels she has been overcritical of her abilities. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she explained: 'I think it comes from not having a background of formal training, you know, in the beginning. 'And I think when I started out, a lot of actors were coming out of Juilliard and I was just this young person from Orange County, kind of just getting by on my instincts purely.'I think, for the longest time, I felt like it wasn’t really enough and maybe didn’t give me the credibility and maybe because I had to find my technique as I went along.'
She also admitted her lack of confidence came from knowing that she 'didn’t sort of start from a real secure place'.About a month ago, Jolie revealed she had to be consoled by her oldest son Maddox, 18, when she dropped him off at college in South Korea.'I just sent one off. I'm so proud of him,' Jolie gushed during an interview with her Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil co-stars, Pfeiffer and Fanning for ET on Sunday.'I'm so excited, I feel like my world expands as their world expands. I learn so much from them and I love this stage.' Visibly excited about the notion of learning more about herself and her children, the Oscar-winning actress did admit the experience will likely be different for her because her kids are at varying stages and age in their lives. 'It does make it easier,' she said of the age gap. 'I'm excited but maybe it's also different. It's going to be different for different kids. Maddox was so ready and his choices were so detailed.' Jolie looked ravishing on the red carpet in a shimmering black one-shoulder floor-length gown. The skintight dress featured a flowy piece of fabric draped from the shoulder to the waist and down the skirt. It was clasped at the waist with a silver jeweled scorpion broach, a glam nod to her wicked leading character. The dress also featured a subtle leg slit, revealing a glimpse at her classic black stilettos. Elle Fanning embodied her character as well in a gorgeous green gown, fit for a princess. The sage dress featured jeweled spaghetti straps and long billowy off-the-shoulder sleeves with loose ruffles at the end.The bodice was pleated, featuring pastel floral accents, which also ran down the sleeves with hanging plum ribbons. She completed the look with a pair of sheer white gloves, embellished with sparkling red drops on the right hand and down the skirt, a nod to her character. Michelle put on a stunning display in a floor-length square halterneck burnt orange gown.
