Phnom Penh, Feb 9 (Prensa Latina) Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, qualified as very important the film about the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime (1975-1979) which is filmed in the country and directed by the American actress Angelina Jolie. According to what he wrote in his Facebook account, mentioned by media today, the prime minister also expressed the support for this production, which - he considered- helps to raise awareness of the struggles during the genocide experienced by this nation in those years.In that period millions of Cambodians died as war victims, mass murder, forced labor and starvation, Hun Sen recalled.Based on the book 'They killed my father first: a daughter of Cambodia remembers', by activist Loung Ung, the film is shot in stages of this territory in Southeast Asia, with the participation of local artists.Up to 3,000 people participate in this production, which includes shots in tourist sites such as the temples of Angkor Wat and Bayon.The film is co-produced by Jolie and Cambodian director Rithy Panh and according to previous reports, the shooting will end this month, while its distribution will be handled by the internet TV platform Netflix.The actress participated as president of the Honorary Committee of the International Film Festival of Cambodia, that took place from December 4 to 10 in this capital.Having also the Cambodian nationality since 2005 by royal decree, Jolie told the media in July 2015 that the film will help his adopted son Maddox to know more deeply his homeland.
